There have been many things working against the Nets' proposed arena in Brooklyn and the cost of protecting it against terrorism might be the final element to end the project.

The bulletproof glass facade proposed for the glitzy arena will cost a mind-blowing $625 per square foot, a source familiar with the designs told The News.

"I think the owners clearly didn't have their financing tied down for this project, and that's going to be the biggest hurdle," said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity about the sky-high prices associated with securing the 850,000-square-foot arena against terrorism.

"With the security concerns at the arena, there's not much you can do to make it that much cheaper," added the source.

This "proposed" arena was supposed to be in the process of getting built already. This project will never get off the ground.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

that's ridiculous. i've lived near that intersection of flatbush and atlantic for 8 of the past 10 years and it's one of the most well lit, safest places in NYC. bullet proof glass is ridiculous. keep the nets outta brooklyn.

Flatbush Avenue. Atlantic Avenue. 4th Avenue. I try my best not to mess with that intersection.

With the economy sinking and the all the legal and finiancial hurdles Ratner has to go through, it looks like the Nets are stuck in the swamp.

i wouldn't want to drive thru there, but to walk around? it's fine.

i hope ratner gets stuck in the swamp forever.

Cablevision lobby is too strong.
Forget about this Nets project.
They cannot beat Jimmy to NYC entertainment.
Non of them can play guitar..

Man this is bull****...bulletproof? Terrorists? They are in Newark for Christsakes!!! So the go to Brooklyn and want to put in bulletproof glass?

Oooooooooh I get it! This is to protect them from NYPD!!! Remember Sean Bell? They shot up the airtrain station and almost killed a passer by.......yeah so maybe its a good idea. I can see some of the residents that manage to survive the building of the stadium getting hit 90 times for Jay walking across flatbush ave.

Perhaps they can reconsider some of the design elements. The arena was very ambitious in its design. I thought the roof was to have trees and other landscape elements.

They can scale it back.
