INDIANAPOLIS - Dwyane Wade doesn't have Stephon Marbury listed in his "Fave Five" on his cell phone, but Wade told The Post he thinks the Knicks' banished point guard can help Miami's playoff run.

Speaking to The Post after the Heat's loss to Indiana on Friday night at Conseco Field House, Wade said Miami could use the point-guard vet.

"I played with Stephon before as a player," Wade said. "He's a guy who still has it and can especially help a team like Boston, especially a team like us as well."

Marbury has said Boston and Miami are two teams he can play for if let out of his KnicksNew York Knicks ' contract. Marbury specifically has told The Post that Boston had given him a commitment it would sign him. It is unknown if Marbury has accepted their offer.

Wade played with Marbury on the U.S. Olympic Team that sputtered to a bronze four years ago. Knicks president Donnie Walsh is set to hold Marbury hostage until at least after the Feb. 19 trade deadline.

Marbury has offered the Knicks $1 million off his contract and a promise to waive his appeal on the $400,000 fine he received. "Hopefully they can move past it and he can move on with his career," Wade said.

How exactly would it be tampering if we have given Marbury permission to talk to teams and actually want him to leave?

Even with the weird situation Stephon is in and the permission granted to him to talk to other teams, I believe this IS tampering because he is still under contract. They are talking about him like if he was a free agent, which he isn't, yet.

I would say its tampering because its not dumbury talking its a member from another team saying it.If mebury was saying it thats another story but any player shouldnt be able to say what wade said but then again KING STERN wont do anything that would give the Knicks any kind of advantage.Stern hates the Knicks and anything about them, or gives them an edge he wont go for.

Yeah, I'm sure he hates the Knicks so much that he basically forced Dolan to fire Isiah and hire Walsh. Read Stern "recommending" Walsh to Dolan.

I believe I read recently that GMs or coaches are not allowed to talk about acquiring other players, but players can say whatever they want. Stephen Jackson was talking about getting Marbury on the Warriors months ago, too.

Stern knows he needs the Knicks to be decent as the league needs the team from the biggest market making fans coming to the games. But somehow he shies away from publicly doing anything positive for the Knicks, maybe because he still fears people will say he is still fixing things for the Knicks like the 1985 draft. Od course, its just a theory.

Stern grew up a Knicks fan and I think he's hard on the Knicks because of that reason. He doesn't want to show bias as a commish. He did screw us in 1997 though. That was BS.

Yeah, and it may seem insignificant, but this Mobley thing screws us a lot as well. Had it happened, it would've made it much easier to trade a guy like Curry or Jeffries. And God knows how hard that can be.

Didn't Stern denounce this theory by basically saying that Knicks in their worst years still make money for the NBA whether they win or not. The sorry truth is that the Knicks don't need to win in order to make money for the NBA, they are cash cows for the league including all the Isiah years.

in this recession...teams are losing money. i think when the knicks are playing really good, the league makes money hand over fist. it's why lebron to ny is basically a lock.

In Isiah's heyday the knicks were giving the league like 70m/yr in luxury taxes alone.

The league don't have to promote the Knicks, their players or the league to their fans. A true cash cow, just stand back and take the money. Hell the owner spend his own money to do so without the league help. That's why I laugh when people talk about Stern getting rid of Dolan, he is trying to find more Cablevisions.
