Funny, we are winning while rebuilding and givng minutes to the ute.

MDA is doing a great job!!!!!

Can you trade JJ2 straight up for Miller? Or are we still using Lee as a throw in?

I was always hoping the expirings could be used to ship out either Jeffries or Curry. An expiring and a 3 year contract for two 2 year contracts. The other team gets cap room for 2009, we get cap room for 2010.

For example, Malik/Jeffries for Kenny Thomas/Mikki Moore. Or Marbury/Jeffries for Brad Miller/Thomas/Moore.

This franchise doesn't know what it wants to do. I'd bet that the GN and head coach each have different goals. Walsh would love to see the team tank so they could get a better draft pick and D'Antoni wants to get into the playoffs at all costs.

It'll be interesting to see if Walsh will gut the team at the trade deadline, assuming he can find takers. It would be the smart move. This year's first round pick is too important. They can try to make the playoffs next year.

I'm sure the Knicks have made it clear to the entire league that they are open to any and all Marbury trade possibilities...

The issue becomes two sided in my mind....

1 - Do other teams what salary relief next year in order to trade servicable players for nothing?

2 - Are the Knicks (under Donnie Walsh) willing to make Zeke type trades (even short term ones) that bring in supplemental talent at a very high price (an extra year of salary at $21M in order to move Steph).

And...

If the answer is yes to both #s 1 and 2 --- are other teams willing to sweeten the deal by adding a decent young player (ex. Francisco Garcia) if the Knicks are willing to take $21M off their books next season.

The deal I thought about was something like Steph and Roberson for Miller, Thomas and Garcia or Salmons.

Knicks dump Steph - add huge salary in 09 but add servicable center and pick up a young combo guard.
Kings dump huge $$ in 09/10 but have to kick in a young guard for the pleasure of saving all that $.

I'm in agreement with this avenue when you are talking 14th pick or 15 the pick and make the playoffs. The whole key here is can we improve the team to make the playoffs and make a good showing. When we made the playoffs in Marburys first year--it was a waste as we got blown out 3 straight games. If we get to the playoffs I want them to atleast try to get us some improvement at the C and SG positions with those ending contracts.

What else is he supposed to say??? Especially when they charge crazy amounts to their season ticket holders.

It's counter intuitive to collect players that he can dump for cap space in 2010 but then say that getting those players playoff experience is the most important thing.

i agree. i really think we should just tank the rest of the way, pick up some extra picks we can in trades, & build through the draft for next season... then in 2010 we'll be in perfect shape to sign 2 max guys, which is supposedly what Walsh said was his goal from the very beginning... if he makes an Isiah-style trade to bring in longterm salary that runs past 2010 just to make the playoffs this year, that brings us right back to where we were a couple years ago.

It's mind boggling. "Sources" say things, fans get excited, and then all of a sudden it's gospel and was the plan all along. When Walsh first signed on, Day 1, he said his plan was two-fold:

A. Get the team in position to have cap-flexibility in 2010. He didn't even specifically mention getting under the cap, just to have flexibility.

B. Become playoff (his words) competitive over the next two years.

Are these tickets refundable or something? I'm unaware. But seriously, as I responded to TMS, Walsh has repeatedly stated he wants playoffs AND cap-flexibility, from the very first day. All of his moves have been consistent with this plan so far. Hired an experienced coach instead of Mark Jackson, traded $27MM off of the 2010 cap while adding nothing to it so far, and meanwhile the Knicks are just 1 game out of the playoffs. Not sure how he's not accomplishing exactly what he said he wanted to.

Also, my belief is that Lee, Duhon, Gallo, Chandler, our 2009 pick and Nate (or whoever he's traded for) will be on the team past 2010. Those are the players getting playoff experience.

What is the point of these trades? Isn't this franchise rebuilding? You want to take away minutes from Gallo and Chandler to give to Marion?
