Below is a list of stats that we are either one of the elite's in or one of the worse in as a team. This also indicates what we really need to form a well rounded team for 2010.

What players do you think can help plug up the holes in the FG%, Blocking and Turn Over departments? And at the same time improving some of the other things that we are already good at?

Outside of star players, a good ball handler (less TOs) and legit center (rebounds & blocks) would help us tremendously! And let's throw in a few good shooters in there also. Below adds up to a 18 - 25 record so far.

WITH THE ELITES

FT%
80.1% (7th) - Nothing wrong with this department

PPG
103.5 (6th) - Despite having a horrible FG%, we still score a lot of points

AST
21.5 (10th) - This helps our offense a little better and it wouldn't hurt to try to make it better

DRPG
31.1 (9th) - Much better on the defensive side

SOMEWHERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PACT

3 PT%
35.9% (18th) - Is it just a matter of chucking even more shots, to score more points?

ORPG
11 (15th) - Not bad considering we're 12th RPG (and we don't even have a true & reliable center)

TRPG
42.1 (12th) - Makes us one of the better rebounding teams

STL
7.3 (13th) - This helps some of our defensive woes

PF
20.1 (23rd) - Good thing or a bad thing? Is it not good to put them on the line, or is it good to be aggressive?

THE WORST OF THE WORST

FG%
43.7% (29th) - We are second to dead last in this department. A lot of misses per chances with this bunch, but we do' chuck-em up

BLK
2.5 (Dead Last) - Oh yeah, that need for a center thing again

TO
14.8 (7th) - A sign that we need better ball control

Interesting post 4949. See now, THESE are some stats that mean something.

The FG% and the Blocks is terrible. I think that goes up with better players though.

Did you guys see that Bastan vs. Dallas game? That's what inspired me to bring this up. Bastan just kept throwing them up from down town, hitting everything in site. If we had shooters like that, our FG% would be with the elite's. And I know' I hate to keep bringing it up, but Bynum or Lopez would have healed our defensive ills on the inside and greatly improved our rebounding.

I can't wait for Donnie to make his next moves, to see who's coming to help us next year.
I'll never trust this' team again.

is the FG% being brought down by the large number of 3's we take? So, really not so bad- is there a team efg%?

And on rebounds- our differential between what we get vs. our opponents is horrible- not sure what measure has us looking good in that dept.

We are the 13th in the league on effective FG%. That takes into account that so many of our shots are heavily weighted to 3 pt shots. Its really not quite as bad, but it means we can run hot and cold on some games.

He is the problem:

Nate, Harrington and Chandler.

These three players have the worst shot selection on the team, most of the other players play within themselves, Q does take bad shots from time to time, but the worst part about those three is they can all get to the rim.

Chandler has a very low iq on the court and often settles instead of taking it inside and using his post game. Nate as well takes a lot of quick threes and doesn't attack some games as much as he should.

Al really needs to play within himself and not shoot the three unless he is open, he misses a lot of guys that have open looks.

You get those three to be more aggressive and shoot less three pointers we have a few more wins, our fg percentage is a lot higher and our assists are up.

And having someone that can play backup pg would have also given this team a few more wins, Duhon is playing way to many minutes.

Overall it's clear progress in terms of team play. We can see the specific areas that need the most attention for a change. Before there were so many issues that you couldn't really narrow things down. We just needed to get better everywhere.

The solid coaching has established a style of play and an identity, so that makes it easier to decide what moves to make to improve the team. If nothing else this season will be a success just to have seen more of what these guys can and can't do, so we can make good personnel decisions.

I think addressing FG% is the most pressing need on this team. When the guys hit their shots, they win. The players are expected to pull the trigger when there is a good look, so I bet each percentage point of improvement there would mean more than a percentage improvement in shotblocking or any other category.

In terms of rebound differential? If you look at the numbers per game- we are just ahead of G State in last place.

As for not having a center & boarding, if I recall correctly, under LB with Curry- who isn't a center- and Frye & Lee, we were actually a decent rebounding team- perhaps it was just a long stretch to start the season.

Papabear Says

We need a legit shot blocking rebounding center!! Point Blank!! Lee's numbers may go down a little but all in all that's what we need right now.
