As per Alan Hahn:
Ben Gordon lobbying for New York?

The Westchester Journal published this piece today from a conversation with Mount Vernon native (and Bulls guard) Ben Gordon, when he was in town Monday for the Knicks win over the Bulls.

Gordon is a free agent this summer and says the pressure of playing for a new contract has been tough on him. But one mention of New York as a possible destination seemed to perk him up.

I tend to compare Gordon as very similar to Jamal Crawford. Both can be tough when they get hot. One-dimensional games, though, as my Fish Sticks buddy P-Botte always says, "It's a pretty damn good dimension to have."

The Knicks desperately need a shooter at the two spot, a guy who can set up as another perimeter target. But they also need someone who can defend in that spot. Gordon is somewhat undersized at he two, though Mike D'Antoni never seems concerned about size matchups, and, quite frankly, if playing for a contract has his game all messed up . . . what will playing in New York do to him?

Then again, if getting 20 a game and shooting 44.8 percent from the floor and 40.4 percent from three-point range is rattled . . .

But would it be better to wait until 2010 and see what you can get out of the Dwyane Wade/Joe Johnson crop? Remember, Johnson played for D'Antoni in Phoenix in that 62-win season. The coaching staff loved him in their system. If the LeBron James dream isn't meant to be -- I wouldn't say longshot, but it's certainly no lock -- then a terrific consolation prize may be Johnson and Chris Bosh as a tandem. Put them with Duhon at the point, Gallinari at the three and David Lee at the four (Bosh would be the "five" in name, but obviously D'Antoni doesn't really designate his forwards as anything but forwards), with Wilson Chandler coming off the bench and a quality backup PG (if you don't keep Nate, that is) and that's not a bad seven.

Gordon's free agency comes a year too early for the Knicks, who would have to acquire him in a trade in order to sign him.

Where do I sign on that deal. Let him go in the offseason. No way the bulls do that deal, I would give up our first round pick in that deal as well. It's more than worth it for the long term savings, it will allow us to keep chandler/lee/gallo to go together with two free agents.

#1. gordon can't be traded without his consent since he is on a 1 year qualifying offer deal
#2. if gordon accepts the trade, the new team WILL NOT get his bird's rights

so basically, there is ZERO% chance gordon accepts a trade to any team that doesn't have mega cap space next year.

he's playing in QO. He has to approve a trade and if he does loses his bird rights.

His options will be very limited next season to resigning with the Bulls, a MLE contract or a sign and trade.

I think Ben would be Wade caliber player in MDAs offense

In both scenarios it works out perfectly for us. We let him walk and he will play here. There are no teams with "mega" cap space next year-at least I don't think that would overpay for an undersized one dimensional 2 with no PG skills(nate do ya' hear me?), imo.

He is lobbying for contract this summer where there will be few offers at good money.

If he wants a one year audition that can be arranged.

We have our perimeter shooter and his name is Gallo.

Gordon fits a need...

ok but I'm sure he's kicking himself for turning down the Bulls initial offers. He is not gonna get close to what he turned down...he's not even playing at a level that warrents that type of pay day anyway. Dumb Dumb!

We really need a two guard. Big hole. No scoring there. Nate is WAY to inconsistent. Gordon is looking at 7-9 mil, IMO. We get rid of Curry and Malik. We can sign David Lee. We somehow get rid of Jefferies(Donnie, you can do it!), and our dream can still be alive!

Ben Gordon? LOL let's just trade back for Crawford while we're at it. Ben Gordon is a slightly better Crawford. Ben Gordon loves going 2-18, 4-26, 3-9, 10-20, 7-15, 2-16, etc etc... Look familiar? Yeah. No thanks. He's a chucker, he's not very smart, and he's seeking a big contract.

As to that trade idea no way does Chicago take back FatAss. No way. So just forget about that.

Ben Gordon... LMFAO... I thought we wanted talented, efficient, team first players? I guess I was wrong.

As to Gordon wanting to come here does he and every other mediocre player seeking max dollars not understand that Isiah Thomas HAS NO AUTHORITY HERE anymore????

LOL.

We unload Curry, he fits and his contract is shorter than Jamal's.

ben gordon under d'antoni would average 30ppg.

if the knicks trade for bargnani (who would average 40ppg under d'antoni), you'd be looking at 70ppg from ben + bargs. killer b's indeed...

LOL perfect!

Gordon...is also a midget. He's shorter than most PGs and fans want him to be our starting SG? Awesome lol.

Isiah wanted him. Probably wanted him to be our starting SF. ugh. All we had to do was then acquire Baron Davis to be our PF and push Q to Center and Isiah's dream would have come true.

Yep sure did. Year shorter. Better player. So I'll stomach chuckington in the grand scheme of things here.

Back in the day I would have traded Crawford for Gordon straight up for it'd be an upgrade. Now though? No thanks to Gordon the chucking midget.

I'd prefer a Rip Hamilton type to a Ben Gordon type
