After the Larry Brown fiasco, I think it's safe to say that a long term coaching contract isn't all that binding. There's a lot of teams out there that have a lot of talent and mediocre coaches, and the Knicks really don't have much talent and won't potentially until 2010. How long is he going to be willing to stick around and coach a bad team that can't compete? The way the Cavs are playing, it's looking less likely that Lebron will come here (why would he? they're undefeated at home, and Lebron will get media attention no matter where he is), so would D'Antoni really be happy coaching a team that starts duhon, nate, chandler, lee, and amare or something along those lines? That's maybe a 6 seed in the east with little chance of getting past the cavs, magic, sixers (if they get their act together), and the other to-be top teams in the east.

Teams like Portland, the Sixers, Bulls, Hornets, and even Miami have very talented teams and potential head coach openings soon, and I think they would all be drastically better with D'antoni as their coach. I feel as though everyone assumes he will be around for the next 3-4 years, but what if he leaves in the middle of next season when we are something like 15-26? Personally, I don't see why he would stay here unless no team was willing to give him even close to the amount we are paying him now...

He can't just leave and coach somewhere else. He's under contract.

Yeah, but he could start talking to the press unsupervised.

There is really no coach in the league that can save us right now. We are putting all of our dreams into 2010.

other than the lakers and celtics, i'd say the knicks are the premier team to coach in the nba. plus, you coach at the MECCA, have the league's best (????) fanbase, and he's getting paid an ass load of money. i think he can tolerate losing for a year or two.

My question is--will Mike D be willing to play with two bigs at the same time?

i'm guessing if we get a superstar or two the defensive thing might become an issue after a year or two of said superstar. someone like lebron is not going to be cool with giving up 120pts in a game. d'antoni could actually end up being a victim of the expected big signings...

I'm pretty sure he came here with the idea that we would be getting under the cap. I don't think he came in here expecting to win with this team.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

I think D'Antoni is looking forward to 2010. If it doesn't turn out better for us, then he'll be gone. I also expect the newer team to be much better defensively in 2010.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Why in the world would D'Antoni come to a well known bad team and then leave knowing there is going to be a much better chance in 2010? And further more, what you are saying by acknowledging that unless Bron shows up, he won't be happy? At the same time saying he'll be happier someplace else, even without Lebron? I'm not sure I get your concern here.

Just how misfortunate do you think we are? Donnie's lining it all up right now for 2010 and the entire league knows it. I really get the notion that the not only the NBA and other teams know this, but that other fans know this, everybody except the common Knick fan! It appears that a lot of Knick fans invest in more crap then common sense.
I'll never trust this' team again.
