in fairness, as a defender, dj and producer of edm, this is like calling a remix of 'Sparta' "hip-hop," using production tone loc used in 1989.

that first song is techno from about 18 years ago.

in all honesty, this is silly nonsense.

For those curious what real techno sounds like today (in its more commercial forms)...

the above track is a bit commercial, but funny for old school NES fans.

no doubt, man.

it's funny to me too.

just seems to me that some folks seem to think this is what "techno" still sounds like.

cool post.

these days i can barely even tell the differences between techno, progressive and deep house anymore... they all sound exactly the same to me (i'm sure u know a lot more about the nuances than i do)... i actually prefer the harder pumping techno of the 90's to the stuff coming out these days.

btw, thanks for that last clip... i think i just gizzed & had a funky trip at the same time watching that chick's silhouette.

haha...tms...

actually you make a good observation about telling the difference.

to me, techno has usually been about less lyrics, but there is house that is close to techno.

progressive has morphed into either "electro house," which you hear in the most pop-oriented clubs, deep progressive, which is still cool to me, or the more traditional "trance" a la paul van dyk, which is a dying form, imho, and held on by mostly american fans who are less familiar with changes in the edm scene, mostly because of our lack of exposure.

over the past few years there was all the rage of taditional new versions of "minimal techno" which we know was started years ago, but has been updated in the new mecca of edm, berlin. the 1st, 2nd, and 4th tracks are more along the lines of.

however, there's been a resurgence of minimal nudeep house, deep tech house and other forms there, and in nyc, which are VERY sexy, sensual and slower than what folks are traditionally used to. like say 122-124 bpms. actually, yo me hip-hop is somewhat of an influence, as you hear some producers mentioning j dilla as an influence, and they are dirty, grimey and grindy, a bit like the last track, sometimes with weird vocals and oscillating sounds all over the place.

the nyc scene, to me, is changing away from the deep, latin, soulful house, sounds of djs that and fans that have been around for ages, as you see more of this in the clubs i like to go to (including later tonight, and definitely tomorrow night). clubs in chelsea and the mpd are not a good example of this, for the most part, imho. you have to go brooklyn, long island city and the lower east side, for the most part to experience it.

i like it, because it's less b.s. of a scene, and plenty of cool peoples (from around the world).

i was in berlin over the summer, where i got to dj, and it was just amazing. so different than what i was used to. part of why i am seriously considering going there in a few months.

sounds good to me. i'm down to go out with you in d.c., for sure.

shiiii...you're never too old! i ain't THAT young, but it's almost more fun when you're older to me because i think i take more advantage...not necessarily of the...ahem ...but......ummm...the situation at hand. (i don't roll so overtly fishmike style, let's put it that way...not that it ain't a possibility).

glad you dug the mix. actually i just finished a new one for the month i gotta post.

when you come to nyc, let me know. but we'll go to the spots i'm talking about. good times for sure. i still need to go to a uk thing at some point now that isiah is gone, since there's not so much beef.

i used to roll pretty hard bro... we'd go to rave clubs 3 nights a week & stay out til day break the following mornings... it got to the point where my body just couldn't hack it anymore... no worse feeling than getting out of the club, drenched in sweat & it's like 30 degrees outside, bright sunlight & people are getting their asses to work while you're assed out like a mutha trying to remember where u parked ur car.

much respect ike. i just spun as a hobby (although i did spin out at 2 spots in nyc back in the day). my sh t was soulful/deep house - like naked music and ish like that. miguel migs, blue six, etc... and some funky/disco house from the subliminal label.

blue six "pure" miguel mix remix is a hot track...

this ben watt remix to sade "by your side" is my SH T!!!
