Dwight, LeBron Will Coach Rookie-Sophomore Game

Jan 12, 2009 4:40 PM EST

Dwight Howard and LeBron James have been asked by the NBA to coach the rookie-sophomore game during February's All-Star festivities.

The exhibition will be held on Friday night, the beginning of All-Star Weekend.

"That should be cool, a lot of fun," Howard said.

Wilson Chandler needs to get on his grind with the Lebron recruiting. Bring gifts, laugh at all his jokes, sing the praises of NY and just overall be his best friend.

Cool. Maybe the rookies and sophomores will be inspired to play defense this game, finally. Those games aren't even watchable. We thought the Knicks were bad on defense. Watch the rookie vs sophomore challenge. We'll look like the Spurs.

I like the NBA All-Star games for that very reason: Little defense.

Just let the best athletes in the world do their thing.

I like the NBA All-Star games for that very reason: Little defense.

That's what I despise about it. The teams should be competing to win and proving that they are the best. That's the way it is in every other sport (At least in baseball and hockey. I don't think I've watched the pro bowl my whole life) and that's how it should be in bball. Yes, people want to see some good dunks, but lets see it against defense. We have the pre game and halftime warmups to watch dunks against no defense.

the only reason i watch the NBA AS game is to see some high flying dunks & alley oops... unless they put some meaning into the game like there is in baseball, i don't see a point in the players making any defensive effort... it's the NBA version of the And1 tour & the fans eat it up.

all star games in general are snoozefests. introductions are better than the actual game.

3 point contest is good. dunk contest can be decent or bad. skills comp is useless.

rookie/soph game is kind of silly too.

this is what they need to do for all star weekend: 1 on 1 tournament with the winner getting $1 mil...

All star games aren't bogged down by the same things that turn most games into 84-77 "shootouts." Reminds me of the '80s games I see on ESPN classic. Offensive talent isnt drowned out in overregulation of the game.
