Duhon endorses getting Pargo if Knicks get DPE

BY ALAN HAHN | alan.hahn@newsday.com

HOUSTON - If the Knicks get word from the NBA this week that they can use a Disabled Player Exception to replace retired guard Cuttino Mobley, one target could be former Hornets guard Jannero Pargo, currently playing in Russia.

"He can really shoot it and score and defend," said Chris Duhon, who played with Pargo with the Bulls from 2004-05 to 2005-06. "He definitely would be a big help."

Duhon and Pargo train together in Chicago during the offseason and could work well off each other in the backcourt. Despite Pargo's point guard size (6-1, 175 pounds), he is known as more of a scorer than a playmaker. Duhon believes Pargo would fit well into Mike D'Antoni's up-tempo, spread offense and also would give the Knicks some needed perimeter defense.

"I think he would do real well," Duhon said. "The court is always spread and he can shoot the ball real well. I think he'd do real well in this system."

Pargo was one of a handful of free agents who opted to sign with European teams rather than take less money to stay in the NBA. He has a one-year, $3.5-million contract with Dynamo Moscow, but the deal has an opt-out for him to return to the NBA.

Pargo averaged 8.6 points in the last two seasons with the Hornets as a key player off the bench behind Chris Paul.

Pargo is a good pick... definitely a significant upgrade over Roberson (not that that's too hard for most NBA players to qualify for)... i've seen Pargo play for the Hornets in several games & i think he'd be a nice fit on this team.

or u can use Nate as part of a package to try & dump Curry's contract... i say do either one of the 2 & tank the fug outta the rest of this season & hopefully we'll get lucky & end up w/a top 3 pick in the draft.

honestly, the team would win more games at this point if we had Pargo in and Nate out. Nate is horrible right now. he clearly doesn't know his role or understand the offense and it's quite clear he'll never be a playmaker. with another playmaker here for him to play with or an inside pressence of any type for him to play off it might be different, but he is wasted here now and is a detriment. get value for him while we can.

I'd rather get an extra draft pick than clear curry's salary. Pretty soon, curry will eat himself out of his contract & even the players union won't be able to stop us from cutting him.

That's sounds like a plan. We should make JJ1 Currry's personal trainer. They will both be 400 pounds by October.

I like Pargo.
If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.

Ill trade Nate for a first and bring up someone from the development league. Guys use your heads--what does Pargo do for the Knicks? Why waste the money?

Nate is a midget Pargo. Damn, I never thought of that comparison before. Nate is a shorter version of Pargo. Sign Pargo and trade Nate.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Never really liked Pargo. Yet looks like he's done okay for himself over the years.

Well, if he's played with Duhon and Duhon likes him, $87 million over 3 years!

Pargo was awesome in last years playoffs. I know Chris Paul is awesome but Pargo was a big reason they got as far in the playoffs as they did.

We thought Anthony Roberson was Janerro Pargo. He clearly isn't, so now we might just go out and get Jannero Pargo.
