I just watched my Giants lose to Philly in a Playoff game that was absolutely miserable due to the fact they could not execute anything at all...My only thought was the season is over and the Knicks sucks again...I just hate this coach and his seven second offense....The Knicks played defense through-out its history...What the hell is this...The Giants played defense through-out its history and when it didn't, it lost...

I really don't understand how people say this is an exciting way to play...It's great to watch???What is exciting about players chucking the ball from the three point line as quickly as they can???...There is a problem with your team when a guy like Fugazy can help you with your style of play...Guys like Duhon is now celebrated...I watch MSG do a peice on Starks a few days ago which reminded me of what this organization used to be about and I almost cried...We played defense first, we played with passion, every possession mattered, no cheap baskets...Whats not exciting about that style of play???...

We have signed on to J Dolan starphucking in signing this coach...Simmons pointed it out in the only way he can do it... This style of play works during the regular season because we get adept at fast pace basketball and you can't prepare for that for just one game...In the playoffs it's a different story...You all has been hoodwinked by Jimmy Dolan once again and you can't even recognize it...

we have bad players holfresh. Go back and watch some tape of Suns games from the past 4 years and tell me they were not fun to watch. eventually we'll get the players we need in this system, but you're right, as of right now, it's ugly.

Its exciting for novice basketball fans who don't understand the nuances and can't appreciate the them or the history of the game. D'Antoni belongs in a small town where the fans aren't nearly as knowledgable as they are supposed to be in NY.

The Knicks as organization though-out it's history won with defense period...The Sun couldn't get over the top with 3 all-stars playing the best basketball of their lives...When do you think the Knicks are going to get 3 all -stars...I hated the way the Suns played because I always thought it was a gimmick...I think it's a gimmick now...It's not fundamental NBA basketball...It's European basketball...We drafted a soft European style player to fit this system...How many of those guys have been making an impact on this league lately...

I brought it up that no one has won a Championship with this style of play...One guy said the '77 Warriors won with this style...Freaking once in the last 30 years...

I'm truly amazed that people really think this is exciting to watch...What is exciting to watching Fagazy, Harrington, Q and Nate chucks as many three point shots as they can???..I really don't get it...

I've been watching some old basketball games lately with the old Lakers and Boston who played a faster pace than the conventional teams...Those games were watchable because of the slick passes and they tried to get high percentage shots in the process...This doesn't even resemble that style of play, but it's exciting????...

The recent Knicks, and by that I mean the 90's Knicks, were known for defense. I fell in love with them because they never quitted, they really were warriors. But before that, in the championship years of the Knicks, they were a good defensive team but also a very intelligent, very exciting basketball team. The quick passes to get the open man, the fastbreak, they were firing on all cylinders. Thats another Knick era worth to remember.

Now, I think its wrong to look back at those eras and expect the same because not only basketball, at least in the NBA, has changed and so have the players. You can still build your own legacy and if everything works out as they want, the Knicks could make a new one soon. But trying to visualize it through this year's team is a mistake.

I have no problem with D'Antoni for now. To start the season he had a mess of a roster and the trades only made it worse. Mobley was lost. Many have had injury problems and others play through tired legs and bodies. Its unfair to evaluate him with this roster. His days in Phoenix were great ones and the criticism he has had for not making the finals or winning a championship is not entirely deserved. So with the idea that he is a bad defensive coach. In Phoenix, most of his players weren't good defenders, and they still had nice runs in the postseason. If the Knicks can get good players for D'Antoni that can also be solid defenders, then he can be fully criticized for any lack of D. But just because his system is known for his O doesn't mean he cares nothing for D.

Lets give it time for the new regime to build their team and see if things get better. The first steps have been taken and there is more hope than in any past season. Hopefully in two or three years we will be talking about NY contending for a championship.

I totally disagree, Defense is always en vogue...Detroit, Boston and San Antonio has proved that...Cleveland is proving that this year...Now, these teams have great playersand we don't, but they think it's the defensive end that will get them over the top...Our coach doesn't think that...

I partially agree with the OP. I prefer defense first playing teams to offense first teams, and I think Defense first teams are more proven to be successful in the playoffs. Even when they were slow paced I appreciated how the Knicks played and liked that style of basketball. Dantoni's style is exciting (when executed well) but I also find the San Antonio Spurs and recent Piston's teams to be exciting too.

I think the coach looks worse right now because the team is crappy. and I know a lot of posters will disagree with me on that.

Yeah I don't think anyone thinks this team is exciting. They for the most part look terrible on any given night.

Can we give this coach and GM some time to undo Layden + Isiah? This gloom and doom **** is getting tired. Its been 2 months since the season started. Give them a year or so and then complain.

For a few weeks there we were competing, but look at this roster. Its probably the worst roster in the league talent wise, with no discernible top options offensively...and its like that on purpose. The team that we have right now, as constituted, is a bridge to 2010. It was designed to expire in 2 years.

We may not be competetive again this year but that is not the objective.

The way we need to grade this team right now is:

1) What we can do to get rid of remaining long term dollars (Curry, Jeffries)
2) Development of Chandler, Gallo and any future picks.
3) Decide from Nate, Duhon and Lee if either is worth keeping long term, and create the space necessary to keep whomever you decide is most important. It may be none of them.
4) Acquiring as many cheap assets (i.e. young draft picks, young FA's) that could potentially have some use and be on the roster in 2010.

Don't get too worked up over individual losses in the meantime.

There's still a lot of time to do the 4 objective up top, this year and next. It may not all happen this year. Maybe none of it will happen this year.

Give them to summer 2010 first and then you can insult. If that's their plan, let theme execute it first.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

You don't have to be an all-defense team to have success in the NBA and win a championship. I mean, you can be effective enough on both ends and have success if you have the right cast. Give D'Antoni better defensive players and Im sure you will see an improvement in D. It isn't like he gives $hit about D, like, say, Nelson. The Knicks, the same sorry team we have right now, have had many decent and solid defensive showings, but being all role players and running a fast break offense with a small rotation will have an effect in a long season. But the fact that they have played solid defense should let us know he cares. Give him better pieces and if the defense remains bad then yell for his resignation or firing.

The players have to be our main objective right now. Get the best ones and give D'Antoni a chance to prove himself. If he fails, its always easier to fire a coach than get rid of all the players.

D'Antoni, being a favorite for many players, can only help us recruit free agents. We aren't winning in a while, until we get those players by draft, free agency or trade, so no hurry to get rid of Mike.

Your daily negative ranting especially against the coach is really getting boring.
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

Its always easy to blame the coach, but everyone on this board knows that no coach can help the Knicks. The Knicks needs are much more than coaching their is a lack of talent on the is team. No superstars. The talent is lacking and has been for a long long time now. To put blame on the coach is ridiculous IMHO. You can bring back JVG, Phil Jackson or Red from the heaven and you will find than no coach will be able to help this pile of crap for talent.

The Knicks better pray hard that Chandler and Gallanari turn out to be superstars because as of right now I don't see any thing that can help the Knicks. Except a star franchise player in 2010 and that might be pipe dream.

As it is currently it really does suck. Seeing guys who aren't good 3 point shooters go bombs away. It's like everyone is trying fill JCraws role. But if you have seen those Suns of untillrecently, they were far more than just a team of chuckers. Their passing and ball movement was so good, it looked like volleyball at times.

I think defense wins championships and I don't think D'Antoni will have any significant success in the playoffs coaching the way that he currently does. However, the Knicks are trying to bring in free agents and every player seems to love playing his style. He is also a players coach. I look at D' as being in place to bring in players and keep people in the seats.
