Lampe, Vranes and Dice on the IL......So no backup SG! Funny for 4 years we had too many SG's now, we dont have enough. Yet we still have too many PF's and PG's. One of these days, maybe Laydumb will get it right.

Ward-HOuston-KVH-KT-Mutombo
FWILL-Eisley-Anderson-Spoon-Harrington-Sweetney-Doleac

That is the opening night squad.

If houston is hurting and needs omre surgery, this team will have gone from a backcourt oriented team last year to a front court oriented team this year. the problem is the front court without DIce is not able to score.

This shows how Layden has FAILED. He has a lopsided squad which could not handle the blow of Dice last year so he overcompensated and this year will not be able to handle the blow of a hurt Houston.

If that's the way you want to see it. Our back court piece was the one we had as trade bait. Remember you didn't like Spoon or Doleac and Othella? Now we get KVH and Mutumbo you cry about sg. Well if Houston wasn't hurt you would talk about the mediocre point guards. Just let things work themselves out.

We need Matt Carrol on this team. We CANNOT have Shandon Anderson as the backup ANYTHING, much less scoring guard. Matt, dont go far. We have to work this out somehow.

Do you hear me layden,

We cannot score 65 points a night and expect to win!

Have we scored 65 points with our top guns Houston and KVH on the court at the same time? NO! See what you guys forget is with those two on the court at the same time it creates easier (shots)points for teammates MutUmbo KT and Ward.

Matt was not going to help the knicks score - the guy was an undrafted rookie... for a reason. You expect him to drop points on NBA guards such as gilbert arenas, mcgrady, spree, kobe, finley, allen ivy, pierce, etc? Carrol was not the answer... Eisley i'm sure must be a better baller than Carrol - and Eisley is junk. Sure Carrol scored a few points in the preseason... but he was almost destined for the IR/IL the entire season if he was signed. Our best move would have been to try and swing KT/Spoon/Ward/Eisley for Ron Mercer.

Waiving Knight & Carrol was the right move. Hopefully sets up Othella for shooting guard deal. Othella's trade value was down because other GMs thought we'd release him. Now they know they have to give up something. And they should. He's not totally useless.

But agree with all the posts suggesting we're in trouble if we don't get a capable backup 2. I've got a bad feeling that Houston's not going to play a full season without injury this year, and even if he only misses small stretches, none of us wants to see 10 - 15 minutes a night of Shannon at shooting guard.

I dont share everyones optimism and trust in layden being able to swing a trade with the garbage we have to offer. Nobody is going to give us something for nothing. Nobody is going to trade a capable shooting guard for injured and just plain horrible players. Like it or not Carrol is a shooter who could spot up and easily keep the floor spread while Houston rests on the bench.

That's not the plan. The plan is to put Eisley or Frank at SG. Shandon backs up KVH. Not saying that's much improvement ...

It's about time we got rid of Knight anyway. Now the real trick is to trade Othella/Spoon/Eisley for a backup 2. I saw Ron Mercer mentioned... I wouldn't mind seeing him here. With that said, we all know LayDown won't (or can't ) do it...

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

The other part of the maneuvering has Dice, Lampe and Vranes going to the IR. Lampe over Harrington to the IR, strange.

I hate feeling this way-- it's like we can't catch a break. No matter how hard I try to be optimistic about this team, something inevitably happens to break my spirit. I thought I was justified in hanging my last shard of hope on the man that delivered TWO 50 point games and 23 ppg last year. Chances are he will never return to that kind of form this year, maybe ever.

I mean, bad luck happens. Injuries... just a part of the game. Hell, if the injury bug didn't bite us a few years ago, there'd be one more banner hanging in the Garden rafters. What I cannot stomach is being lied to... the company line was that Houston would be ready for game one, and Mcdyess would be starting this year and the rookies would be able to contribute. None of these things have materialized. It's frustrating how little attention the local sport media has been giving this team lately, and annoying how every reputable preseason prognostication (including ESPN, NBA.com, and SI) picks the Knicks to fail in their bid to return to the postseason. But I'm starting to think that they're probably right.
Let it be known: I believe in the Knicks this year-- deep into the playoffs, I swear to you my brothers...

Yes, go ahead and give Layden the benefit of the doubt. But here are the facts. In early june Houston had surgery. This was before the draft and FA signing period. I am sure Layden knew all along that Houston's knee was not coming along right. He also knew, by looking at the roster, that his ONLY backup to SG were Eisley and hit the side of the backboard Anderson. He chose to get more PF's. He still has not solved a PG problem that has been going on since Derek harper left (remember when marbury said NY could not win with Ward and Childs..that was '99 before they got to the finals!). 4 years later, still no PG, no backup SG and about 8 PF's.

Someone made a good point. knights contract expires this year! He was a valuable trade asset. Now they will pay his salary after another team signs him to the min!
You are dreaming that he will make a deal with Harrington. As Vescey said last week, last year when Krause was begiing to give away Crawford AND Fizer, Layden sat on his balls. This year, Crawford is the starting PG and now he wants him so he offers OH?!! What a JOKE!

That is not GM level work. That is rotissiere level trading.

Go ahead speak ill of winning coaches and speak highly of Lydena nd Chaney. Your messages will not be forgotten!
