that team dont want. Lee is wanted throughout the league but the Knicks dont want to pay him to have a chance at two free agents. Nate who hasnt been in any trade rumors is fine to sign for 6 million and he would be a great 6th man. Walsh who doesnt like to make quick decision could have signed Lee for a 7 or 8 at the beginning of the year and had a consistent player who is unselfish. Why dont we trade Nate and get a player that is a better fit.

how much faith do you put in walsh to make a good trade that will yield usable talent for a guy like nate or lee?

*cough* speak for yourself. There isn't even one player on this team I wouldn't trade.

I think Walsh could have gotten a lot for Lee in the summer of last year. He will get bench players or another rfa for him. Everyday that goes back the player gets more leverage because of the contract status. You wont get a draft pick for them now becasue a week later they can sign them to a offer sheet. I think you have to sign them or trade for whatever but I dont think the cards were played right

The job of GM is to keep all options open.
The job of the coach to request players he wants to see on the team and keep/trade players he already has.
Walsh is doing his part and when opportunity is there and we have some offer Mike is coming into the picture to yes it or reject it.
This is a process. This is real life not RealGM computer game or fantasy league.

If Lee, Nate, and Chan are still with the Knicks - Mike never approved trading them.
Can Mike and Walsh decide to trade them if the offer will be too good to pass on? No doubt they can.
And there is nothing wrong about it.
If you are upset that lee is not signed in the summer and we will need to spend 2-3 mils more on him in 2010 you are overreacting.
2-3 mils will not change anything. But Walsh still have all option open.

I am very happy that Lee didnt sign for 7 because that would have been a bargain now his stock went up and he will get more money. The job of a GM is to also be proactive and sign guys before they price him out of the market.

I think that the assumption that everyone wants to keep Nate but trade Lee is off. The Knicks do realize that Lee is their best tradeable talent to match with an outgoing Curry/JJ. You can't do that with Nate, but that is NOT to say that the Knicks want to keep Nate.

Lee has baggage also because he is a rfa so if you trade him I dont think you will get a salary dump out of it. Either they trade him for someone unproven or they keep him and sign him this summer. Will be an interesting 5 weeks

Completely agreed with the last sentence.... but imagine if you are a CEO of a new company and everyone is begging you to re-sign the whole management staff to 5 year extensions sight unseen, would you do it or would you want to see them in action for a year and make your own assessment?

Signing Lee to a 5 year deal starting a $7M (where did we get that #?) in year 2010 would have also limited Walsh's hand's in that big offseason. It was a risk and who knows if it will pay off. You should be happy that Lee was not re-signed early.

he does have baggage as a rfa but if HE opts to NOT sign with the Knicks and go to another team, he can't get the type of raises either the Knicks or a team the Knicks trade him to could give.

"If Lee, Nate, and Chan are still with the Knicks - Mike never approved trading them"

Has the trading deadline already passed? darn, I missed it

"But Walsh still have all option open"

Not exactly. The option of trading Lee to move up in the 08' draft is no longer an option. Re-signing Lee and Nate before they become RFA's isn't an option anymore either. Deciding to Hold onto Balkman until the trading deadline, and then give him away for nothing if something better isn't there isn't an option anymore. Getting the most out of your highest paid player isn't an option anymore. Applying for a medical exemption on James isn't an option anymore. Deciding not to take a flyer on Roberson isn't an option anymore. Rushing Gallinari back before he is 100% healthy isn't an option anymore. Singing PEJ as your 15th man isn't an option anymore

"Walsh is doing his part and when opportunity is there and we have some offer Mike is coming into the picture to yes it or reject it"

That's a real stretch. Walsh - Uh, hi Mike? Is it Ok if I trade Chan Man? No, ok thanks. Sorry, hope I didn't interrupt practice or anything super important.

BTW- your condescending attitude is really coming through the screen. You act as if you just got off a conference call with Walsh and MDA.

All I am saying is the longer this goes on the more likely Lee will be a Knick which I am cool with that. The reason I say that is because your options are trade him and if you get equal value than a great job or sign him in the summer. DOnt you agree if Walsh lets Lee go for nothing, or doesnt get a salary dump or get equal value in a trade than he handled it wrong.

I think Mike likes him, but only as a reserve at about 20-25 minutes a night at SG position, his decision making thus far is not good enough to be a backup PG full time. The guy can be dynamic but only controlled with a good PG and with strong leadership on the court (all-stars who can take the weight off) which the Knicks do not have.

I think they keep him and make a low-ball offer for the MLE plus in year 2010.

I get the feeling based on watching the games and prior info that D'Antoni doesn't like Lee as much as he says. He gets on him a lot for mistakes (sometimes I think for errors that are normally on Duhon). It looks like Lee is getting a little tired of being singled out in that last game too. So I can see him being moved before Nate or anyone else.

king will you stop posting on here once Lee is traded. He seems like your only concern on the team that is why I am asking? Are you a Knicks fan or just a Lee fan?
I don't like to play bad rookies , I like to play good rookies - Mike D'Antoni

A lot times coaches will yell the loudest at the players they like the most. Tough to read into how much he likes the guy.
I just hope that people will like me

I am a fan of my players that played for me. If you draft Hansbrough I will be a fan. I really think they are going to keep Lee and I hope they do because he wants to help tun this around.

ok - lets look at this:

1) swapping lee for mayo - bungled deal. knicks supposedly tried this, but lee said he wouldnt go to memphis
2) balkman - dumb trade, but who knows why this was really done?
3) getting the most from marbury - this was walsh's plan, but mike d thought - kill marbury before marbury can kill me. capeesh?
4) i think they tried to get james to medically retire. he refused. he is now refuse. get it?
5) you think roberson vs. pej really makes a difference? i thought not.
6) rushing gallo back was dumb. as a doctor, i can tell you disk injuries NEVER heal, and only get worse, and the best thing is rest. i've had similar problems, and rest just makes it feel better. gallo is now damaged, like danity kane.
