Riley: It's Time
Saying "It's right for me to do this," Pat Riley announced today that he's stepping aside as head coach of the Miami Heat. He'll stay on as the team's president and named assistant Stan Van Gundy as his coaching replacement.

Nov. 11 baby, it's brother vs. brother when the Heat comes to Houston. Will JVG cling to Brian Grant's leg? Will Stan be able to avoid losing all his hair like Jeff? Fan-tastic!

haha....you think it was time for Riley to go? Funny how Van G's seem to follow his footsteps.

It was time for Riles to go several years ago. Never like the guy, though have to give him credit for having been an effective coach in the 80s and 90s, but it's been a while since he's had a positive impact. Surprised to see him quit when he's down, though. Doesn't seem to fit his personality.

I think Riles took a look at his team and saw another non-playoff ending.

just checking out the beginning of the NJ-Minn game and it was pointed out that BScott does not have a long term contract - it may end in a year or so. You think Riles had this in the back of his mind when he left Miami's bench?

That would be cold if he did ... he was Byron's mentor. Never really liked Riley (though have to give him his due ... he did a very good job w/ the Knicks), but I don't think he'd be lobbying for Scott's job while Byron's still under contract and looking for an extension.

Riley leave Miami? Naw he's running things with out all the travel and dissappointments.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.
