after a little bit of a struggle adjusting to a new player in AI, which should be expected no matter who u trade for, the Pistons have now won 10 of the last 12 games & at 21-11 are among the top teams in the EC once again.

people have said they were fools to trade away Billups for AI, but look at the numbers:

Billups - 12.5 pts. / 7.5 ast. / 5 reb. / 1.5 stl. on 33% shooting before the trade
AI - 18.2 pts. / 5.6 ast. / 3.7 reb. / 1.8 stl. on 42% shooting since he got to DET

the Pistons are 19W - 11L since that deal went down... they're also set up nicely for free agency in 2010... people have ragged on Joe Dumars for that trade but i think the numbers point to the fact that he's done a terrific job of keeping them very competitive right now & still putting the franchise into a good position for flexibility in 2010.

for his part, Chauncey has really been a great addition to the Nuggets franchise as well... i think that trade worked out well for both parties involved.

I said it at the time. It was a great trade for both teams where the dividends paid are almost immediate.

word, so did i dude... AI's always been a guy people like to rag on for being selfish & whatever, but to me he's still 1 of the best players in the game today... i thought Dumars was smart to make that deal & from the looks of it, it's paid off nicely so far.

Definite. AI was just a bad fit in Denver because of their roster, but after his first couple of years in the league not only has he proven to be one of the more exciting players in history --- he is also a proven winner despite the haters trying to convince otherwise. I'm not surprised by Detroit's success and they are going to be a problem in the 'offs.

if u think about the matchups, a Finals of DEN vs. DET would be really intriguing to watch... i think both teams are pretty evenly matched.

Actually the Pistons are 17-11 since the trade which is still good considering. They were 4-0 before the trade and are currently 21-11.

the trade was made 11/3... they're 19-11 since the trade... AI didn't play in the first 2 games but they still won those games w/o Billups.

Dumars really does a good job of implementing his plan. The only mistake the guy has made in the 8 years or so that he has been GM was the drafting of Darko instead of Anthony, Bosh, or Wade. He even made the most out of that mistake because instead of forcing the coach to try and turn Darko into a player to save himself, he traded Darko for a pick and ended up with Stuckey, who looks like their future starting PG.

I don't disagree. Bosh, Wade, or Anthony would have probably added at least one more championship. But overall, Dumars has been one of the best GMs in the last 10 years.
