Larry (Sacramento): Any chance that a team deals for Brad Miller? Honestly, I can't imagine anyone wanting a slow, lazy, soft 7-footer whose best quality is being able to pass out of the high post and worst qualities (there's a 4 way tie) are his lack of athleticism, lackadazical attitude, aversion to playing defense, and his lack of guts. Then again, I'm not an NBA GM.

SportsNation Chad Ford: (1:20 PM ET ) Yeah, there's interest. One thing I've heard some rumblings about was a deal that would send Miller and Salmons to the Knicks for Curry, Jared Jeffries and David Lee. The plus for the Knicks would be that it would give them some serious cap space in 2010. Obviously Lee would be the attraction for the Kings. He'd be good paired on the front line with Spencer Hawes.

Not familiar with Salmons game but he doesn't block shots but is a decent scorer at 19 a game (48% FG is not bad). But he is 29, not a young talent to be getting back.
He is 6'6" and is listed as a SF but I wonder if he could play SG.
Anyone know his game?

Dre ( Los Angeles ): Give me one good reason Eric Gordon is not top ten in the rookie rankings?

Chad Ford: (1:37 PM ET ) He should be. He's been really good. Think the Knicks, who seriously considered drafting him ahead of Gallinari, are crying themselves to sleep at night?

The Italian better be good because Gordon/Lopez look like nice starting cornerstones

salmons is crazy.

he agreed to terms in phoenix, then in the last second said no.
then agreed to terms in toronto then in the last second said no by saying "god told me not to go there". (no lie)
then he agreed to the mid level in sacratomato.

Nick (NYC): Chad, what have you heard on this David Lee to Portland stuff?? Wouldn't Lee for Jerryd Bayless and a first rounder be a great deal for both teams??

Chad Ford: Portland has interest in Lee. But honestly, Portland has interest in all of the good young players in the league. Kevin Pritchard is very proactive and likes to collect assets. The Knicks would probably be interested in that deal ... Bayless and a first rounder. The problem is, Portland's not offering that. I think they're not willing to give up that much for Lee. I think Lee will be gone by the trade deadline, but I'm not sure it will be Portland.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Herman (Virginia Beach): What's Donnie Walsh's next move?? Will Curry or even Lee be a Knick after the All-Star break?

Chad Ford: Curry is a tougher sell. First he has to show he's 100 percent healthy and in shape. Then you have to convince a team to take his huge contract. The team that needs him the most, ironically, is the Bulls. They desperately need someone who can score in the paint. I just don't see Paxson ever taking him back.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Steiny (NYC): Do the Knicks still plan on buying Stephon Marbury out?

Chad Ford: Most over reported story of the year. Does anyone REALLY care? We've had some slow news days and a lot of New York newspaper guys are treating this like LeBron. The guy has no future with the Knicks. If he has no future with the Knicks, do you really think he's the missing piece to a championship contender? Please. Whether the Knicks buy him out or not makes zero difference to their future. Whether the Celtics, or some other team sign him, won't be a big factor one way or the other. Marbury needs to pack his bags and head to Europe.

the key is you'd rid yourself of curry and jeffries' contracts to end up being major league players in the 2k10 FA sweepstakes.

 @ Chad Fraud. So sad, he used to be so good before ESPN bought him and his site. They were the only ones who had the Ewing trade right.

I do wish so many of you could let go of your attachment to Lee. He's a good player, but, we have an opportunity for greatness if all goes well in 2010. This deal would help us now and in the future. Hope it happens.

The root of the deal is to clear salary, not to acquire Miller and Salmons to do anything for us on the court, much like we traded Zach for cap space not to acquire Tim Thomas of all people.

You're dumping Curry 10M, and to an extent Lee's new contract that could be 10M+ per year. Salmons and Effries is a wash but at least we get a guard back for the time being.

These are the types of deals you consider if your ultimate goal is full cap space in 2010.

That said, it's got to be bogus. Chad Fraud at it again. Sounds like he read a thread on RGM and turned it into some sort of inside trade talk.

Of interest is that Salmons has worn out his welcome in Sacramento, apparently getting into it with teammates and most recently, coaches, over his role since Kevin Martin returned to action. Not that we need or want a headache, but, it would appear the Kings want him gone.

I overstand that but we would need a prospect and or a first round pick in that deal aswell.

Salmons is no slouch. I think he went toe-to-toe with Kobe this year in a game, not that he is Kobe by any stretch, but the dude fights on the defensive side of things and is a decent shooter. He could be a bigger version of Raja Bell. He just turned 29 and earns $5+M a year. Not bad.

I think you underestimate Salmons big time, he is not a wash with JJ.

I someone took Jeffries and Curry, I would have to think about it but I think we can get a better deal. It all depends on whether Curry comes back healthy and can run decently. If Curry can average 15 pt, 6 rbs at .60 percent shooting, then we probably could get a pick for him. We already got rid of Randolph and Crawford. If we trade Lee, then we should have all the cap space we need for 2010. I would rather trade Curry and Lee in separate deals unless Sacro is going to throw in a 1st round pick. Even a pick swap might be worth it since the Kings are going to finish in the bottom 5 most likely. WIth Griffin coming out, getting two chances at the top pick might be a good idea.

We need cap room that's clear and maybe this deal makes us so bad we move up in the draft put then we are left with the following

Chandler, Danillo, Nate, Duhon, not exactly getting me excited. I guess Harrington can get you something next season, and if you add a draft pick.

Would Wade/Lebron/Bosh we willing to accept 16 million a piece (disgraceful to even ask), if we clear out Jefferies/Curry that's one salary right there if we don't resign? No resigning Lee for 10/11 and giving Nate/Duhon 7 million each, Chandler, Danillo would be on Rookie deals, as would our draft pick and you pick up a veteran for 1.2>

Should be around 61 million then

Duhon 6
Wade 15
Chandler 4
Lebron 15
Bosh 15
Nate 7 (could do it if you move nate and just do role players)
2009 Draft choice 3
Veteran 1

As long as we are getting greedy?

Salmons is a very good and polished NBA player. He's under athletic, but does everything well. He's worked hard and has become a good player, but he's peeking bigtime and his team isnt very good. I am fine with trading Lee but he's a 15/11 player in a rookie contract. You MUST get both young talent and pick(s) back.

I'll just add this in general to anyone who does NOT think JJ/Curry/Lee for Miller/Salmons is a good deal for the future.

With JJ/Curry gone, you GUARANTEE that the Knicks can sign 2 max free agents during the 2010 offseason; it's a lot of eggs in one basket, but why not shoot for the moon. You also get back a super solid 2-way shooting guard at low cost.

Your projected 2010 roster would be:

Gallo 3.3M
2009 pick 3.0M
Wilson 2.1M
Nate 6.0M
Salmons 5.8M
Duhon 7.0M
FA#1 17M
FA#2 15M

Now that is actually an intriguing deal for the Knicks.

We get better instantly with Miller and Salmons (both start).

We get big time long term cap relief.

Salmon's is an outstanding scoring guard with size who defends. He would kill in this offense and gets to the foul line alot. Zeke was a huge Salmon's fan -always trying to get the kid. Opens up a spot for Gallo and also opens up a spot for Pat Jr or back-up point. Salmons can also initiate the offense though he is primarily a scorer. Brad Miller still an elite passing center - would fit very nicely in the high post D'Antoni runs for 1.5 years.

BUT - we will miss Jefferies scoring ability and Eddy's heart and defense will surely be sorely missed.
