The easiest way Walsh could open up a roster spot, actually, comes on Jan. 10, when all contracts are guaranteed. Which means a lot of fringe players lose jobs on Jan. 9. Which means the possibility of cutting Anthony Roberson and his less than $800,000 contract to make room for someone else (or the fruits of a two-for-one trade). Worth reading "trade talk": http://njmg.typepad.com/knickknacks/2009/01/trade-talk.html Our "priorities": First priority: a two-guard (to replace the retired Cuttino Mobley, who was supposed to replace the traded Jamal Crawford). That's a well-populated position and we threw a lot of names at the wall in Friday's Record as possible candidates, including Raja Bell, Raymond Felton, Larry Hughes, Wally Szczerbiak, Sasha Pavlovic, Rashad McCants (he of the 7-for-9 on threes in Minnesota's victory last week at the Garden), Damien (son of former Knick Gerald) Wilkins, Quincy Douby and Jerry Stackhouse. It looks like we are going for a two guard first and Mobley's exception isn't in yet so that spot is still "full" it seems: Besides, at the moment, the Knicks don't have any roster spots. Walsh plans to file for the disabled player salary-cap exception for Mobley shortly, but that could take time. Ewing Jr., Maybe not: As for a 10-day, Patrick Ewing Jr. may not want to pack his bags just yet, as Walsh said he doesn't want to sign someone "to just fill spots." P-Diddy, for the record, averaged 10.5 points and 7.3 boards in his first six games with Reno of the development league. I hope we don't let Ewing Jr. slip away as he really is our best shot at a shot blocker. Roberson is rotting, cut him now. (Unless we are keeping that potential spot cause they are eying a 2 for 1. I think most of us would rather have Ewing Jr as 15th man over Roberson. EMS The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant.
