The Blazers handed the Celtics their third loss in four games on Tuesday night, but even more surprising was their scoring with six men on the court.

With 10.3 seconds left in the second quarter, the Blazers took to the floor and scored with six men on the court. The refs didn't catch it until after Travis Outlaw scored. The basket was counted.

Needless to say, Celtics coach Doc Rivers was upset.

"We even called the league about it and they didn't know what to do," he said.

A still frustrated Rivers took a comment sheet from NBA Official Mike Callahan and dropped it into a reporters hand while Ray Allen was conducting an interview.

"Here's another brilliant quote," a visibly upset Rivers said before leaving the Celtics locker room.

Callahan said the following:

"If we would have caught the six men on the court before the made goal then there would have been no score. We would have called a technical foul on Portland and stopped play. After the technical foul shot (by Boston), Portland would have inbounded the ball as they were in possession before the stoppage."

That 6 man on the court thing was crazy. KG was lit! I'm so glad it was during a regular season game and not the playoffs......they gotta get that right. Refs shoulda negated the basket and gave the team a tech. Disgraceful.

Even better was the Charlotte game against the Knicks.....I counted at least 5 calls that were totally bogus that helped the Knicks win. Too many non calls too against the Knicks. I'm glad they didn't call the game right cuz the Knicks should have lost otherwise. Fucking refs...its no wonder they are always getting cursed out and such. 3 eyes and still can't get it right.

Well, let's be fair, Al Harrington got hammered a few times in that game and there was no call, Jeffries got called for a phantom offensive foul, and there were others... so I'm gunna say it balanced out in the end. It usually does overall.

It's basketball. It's fast paced. Sometimes you won't get the benefit of the calls. Sometimes refs may actually "cost" you games. IT happens to everyone. Overall the officials do a good job.

That being said: 6 players on the court is ridiculous

I hate to say things balance out, because calls at different times have different effects as to the magnitude of the call.. But I do agree, Al was getting beat up all night and before duhon lost the ball out of bounds he was fouled. I say it's the equivalent of a guy comming over the back and the ref not making the call, but also not giving that team the ball, although the player being fouled knocked the ball out of bounds...

I think what it is TKF is the bad calls in clutch situations stand out.

For example, lets say the Knicks got away with goaltending in the 1st quarter which resulted in the opponent losing out on 2 points.

Now, it's the end of the game, it's tied, the knicks put up a layup, the opponent goaltends it, but no call. Now suddenly you feel OUTRAGE because it's in a crucial moment.

Yet, despite WHEN the opposing calls occurred, is it not a balance? It is.

Of course, it does not always work that way, there are always flat out screw jobs that no one can understand. No need to list them all as the list would be long....but I'll touch on a couple further down.

Yet, I think last night more so illustrates a legit balancing of bad calls more than either team getting screwed. However, the Cats might disagree, on the Duhon play towards the end. Even Duhon himself said he flat out lost the ball but then he recants and says "well I got fouled earlier so I guess it was a late call."

Well, again, whatever...as look back at Al getting smacked up at least 3 times no call, Jeffries phantom O call - I mean, that's four right there in the Cats favor. I'm quite sure we had 4 in our favor last night though.

One that will always stick in my mind however is the Knicks-Spurs finals. We're undermanned, Spree relentlessly attacks the rim, gets swatted but fouled numerous times by duncan and robinson - and - NO CALL. What happens? Spree stops attacking the rim. That was crap.

Need we remember the Heat-Mavs finals? You know, Dallas dominating, about to go up 3-0, but for whatever reason with 6 minutes left in the 4th of game 3 - the Mavs got zero calls and the Heat got phantom calls and no calls in their favor. Haslem smashing Dirk out of the way to "steal the ball". No call. The infamous Wade taking it over and back, then travelling, then shoving Harris to the ground, then palming in the corner, then initiating contact as he threw himself between two mavs towards the rim - only to what? Get 2 FTS to seal that game. LOL I mean please.... even about 1/3rd of the Heat fanbase knew that was bullcrap.

Since then the NBA has cleaned up a lot of it's act with purposeful BS calls. Yet, it's still a league that caters to shaping it's own product through it's own officials.

Anyone that thinks different is insane in my book.

not for nothing but in yesterdays blazer game the celtics - aside from the 6 man call - pretty much got every call their way. it was embarrassing. i couldnt believe the blazers overcame the celtics and the refs to win that one. the score shoulda been a lot more lopsided, actually.

Is it true or not true? REfs have bad games so we make it out that they do this everynight, but generally they call a pretty good game. I know, I know, I'm not trashing officials so I must be in Stern's pocket.

You guys are like sheep. Everyone else gets on the refs for conspiracies, being unfair, cheating your team. Those that go against the grain are turned into dirty no good Breen lovers.
