Just looking for opinions... I doubt anyone here has really truly considered how good we could be with a TRULY healthy McDyess.

With McDyess, Houston, and KVH, we'll have 3 proven scorers. Throw in Thomas and Mutombo and we have a pretty tough little bunch of veterans.

Three excellent defensive bigmen, 2 shot blocking threats (Mutombo & McDyess), and a couple of bangers ('Spoon, Thomas, Doleac)...

If Houston is as good as he has been for the past 2 seasons, this should be a very interesting Knick team.

We'd have a pretty mix of young players involved as well--- with Lampe, Vranes, Sweetney, Williams... and quite possibly Carroll. Guys... who simply put, are hungry, especially Carroll, who will be playing for a spot in the NBA each and every day of his stay with the Knicks.

It looks like someone is going to be waived/traded imminently, be it Knight or Harrington.

I think, folks, we'll easily have a .500 team... and if we can stay in one piece, maybe win 50 games. The team chemistry is a little bit warped right now, since several players are still getting into playing shape... but this might be one of those scary teams come playoff time, a team that no one can predict...

There are some big question marks on this team:

Will Dice come back strong?
Is Deke close to the player he was a couple of years ago?
Will KVH be effective despite fans' beating on him?
Will Houston be as good as he's been over last two years?
Will they get the chemistry right?

They need to get the last one right and at least 2 of the other 4 to make the playoffs, 3 of the other 4 to make some noise once there. I'm hopeful too. That's what the preseason's for ... high hopes.

I think the talent is there, if all healthy to win 45-50 games. The question is, is the coaching there? SO far they have llooked unorganized and lost on the court. Will that change with H20 and Dice back? It should take some time to get them to gel, but by January this team should be above 500 and making a run at the playoffs.

If not FIRE CHANEY !

I agree. It looks like Chaney is the weak link here. I wont mention the fact that he tires role players out by keeping them on the court too long, or the fact that he almost ruined Dysess' career, etc.,. Thats been done too many times, but i guess this is one nice guy that ALWAYS finishes last.

The first year we didnt make the playoffs i blamed Dolans.

The second year we didnt get to the postseason, I got on Layden.

If we dont make it to the promised land this year, my rage turns to Chaney.

Chaney has always been the weakest link....he is not the coach this team should have - and if they arent looking good 10 games in I would fire him.

10 games is not enough to judge anyone, unless you are 0-10. Would you fire him if they were 3-7? Not if you knew what you were doing, you wouldn't. The only way Chaney and Layden get the pink slip is if the team misses the playoffs. In the East, you can be a .400 team in March and still make the playoffs. So, unless the Knicks are a .350 team or less at the All-Star break, Chaney is the coach for the full season.

The only reason Nellie got shafted before the halfway mark his season with the Knicks was because Ewing threw a fit about not being the one and only option on offense, and Ewing had David Falk as his agent, a man who, at least in the 90's, pretty much controlled the league's player decisions from his office, which is why Ewing's hissy-fit got Don fired and his wish to be traded was granted later on. Of course, Falk unloaded Glenn Rice on us, as though it was a reward.

But no current Knick has that kind of juice. And everyone likes Chaney. Unless things go horribly awry, he will be the coach the entire season. And once he's gone, he'll be replaced by another assistant or a low-cost alternative. No bigtime coach wants to work for Dolan and Mills unless they relinquish some decision-making or veto power to the coaching position.

In the meantime, if you want a new coach and/or GM, you'd better root for the Knicks to lose as many games as possible.

I hate to admit it, but I have been rooting for them tolose for 1 1/2 already.I see nothing that changes my mind.I think it'sin the best interests of the team to clean house--i agree the only way that happens is if they lose badly. i think the downfall of the knicks this year is in the thin backcourt.

It wouldnt take me 10 games to get rid of him, I would have done it a while ago when the semi-rebuild began.

One can truly judge Chaney after he has a full roster this yr, anything other than that is silly posting .

If I remember correctly, he had a full roster last year and the year before that - isnt a full roster 15 players?

Chaney is not a winner, its as simple as that.

i think the season all come down to Dice. i dont think im coming up with any knew kind of idea, but it just makes the most sense. he draws double teams, rebounds plays defense and makes players better around him.i dont even think houston has to do what he did last year if dice is healthy. knicks have alot of offensive weapons. so houston might not score as many points but will be more effective with dice van horn and thomas also scoring.

If The NYK main players aren't healthy by New Year's, it's a wrap. Chaney and LayDown will be fired and we can get a REAL coaching/management team in here that will get things on point again.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!
