New Year is main holiday in Russia.
Nobody is sleeping until 8-9AM the 1st. Christmas tree is actually set for New Year not Christmas itself as Russians are atheists or Orthodox Christians and Christmas is 7th of January. In US I am going to Brooklyn in the morning to buy caviar, Russian red fish and other "delicatessen". Then we will say goodbye to Old Year with the family of my brother in law and family of my parents in law. A lot of drinking will go along - like 5-7 double of Vodka traditional and a lot of champagne. Then at 9:00PM will go back to NJ to the house of my parents to say goodbye to Old Year again. …And A lot of food and Russia Brandy. Then we will go together to my house and at 12:00PM will meet New Year with champagne by shooting from the bottle to the sealing!!! …And watching the Ball drop on TV. Then eating and drinking a lot. Partying with friends till about 2 AM Then crash for few hours and head out to DC to visit other friends early on the 1st. BTW forget the Vodka, Single Malt's the way to go :))
