He's a glorified Jamal Crawford. He is so overrated it amazes me. Imagine Crawford with the ability to get to the foul line 12, 14 times a game. That's Arenas. Plus maybe 1 or 2 FG percentage points. THE GUY IS A BUM but everyone loves him, cause he's funny or something, whatever his blog sucks too.

And yes, he fleeced the Wiz, there were already plenty of signs the guy was a health risk, and they signed him anyway. When's the last time the guy played 30 games in a row? February 2007! TWO YEARS!

Come on...Arenas at his best was scoring close to 30 pts per game,2 steal, 5 assist, 5 rebounds and taking his team to the playoffs...The guy takes and hits the big shots for his team...How is that fleecing or a glorified Crawford...He is being judged in that manner because he is hurt, but when he plays no one can argue he is a player...

Maybe he needs the ball too much a la Iverson, but that's entirely another story...He is an all star...One of the top 2 guards in the league when healthy...

Gil's more consistent than Crawford when healthy. He also played on a perennial playoff contender. If he doesn't sacrifice his numbers, he'll never play for a championship contender because he doesn't make anyone better and doesn't defend. He'll either get healthy and be a gunner for the rest of his career or, he'll just be this generation's version of the guy who had a few good years and fizzled out.

He got that deal for 3 reasons:

He's marketable. Not every NBA market is NY or LA where fans will pay hundreds/thousands to watch a terrible team with no superstars yet still feel entitled to having a championship contender. Most markets need a superstar and/or will appreciate making the playoffs every year, especially a place like DC where they couldn't really give a damn about the Bullets/Wizards between the Strickland era and the Arenas era. Gil can put up 50 with his eyes closed and was one of the most clutch REGULAR season players in the game when he was healthy. Caron might be the real best player on the team, but he's efficient, not exciting. Same with Antawn. Fans will pay to watch a guy that can entertain them on the court and in the paper.

He was on his way back to Golden State.

Abe Polin likes to reward character and felt some kind of way about Gil's unfortunate circumstances growing up, his work ethic and how generous he is with his time and money.

That'd be a pr nightmare for them.

I wonder if a team like the Wizards would trade Gilbert for Marbs as a salary dump. The best thing for Caron and Jamison is a pound the ball point guard like Marbs. Without dipping into your hatred towards Marbs you know the fit is better for their team.

Knicks need a scorer. If the Wizards bite...the Knicks have their 2 guard cuz no....Gilbert is not a point guard. Like some mentioned.....Gilbert is just like Craw but better.

HAYL NO to Gilbert Arenas & his max contract that expires in 2014 bro!... come on, what's going on here?... all of a sudden 2010 is no longer the goal to be focused on because of a few bad games since the Jamal & Zach trades?

Well 2010 is all to the good but who said the Knicks can't lick the bowl before they bake the cake. Having Arenas in the offense already then adding another all-star?

i just don't view Arenas as the guy i wanna hamper this team's cap down w/a max contract for the next 5 years dude... even if we have to settle for a Joe Johnson & Amare combo in 2010 that's way more preferable to me than settling now for Gilbert Arenas... just my personal opinion... or even if it's not those guys, there's no telling what kind of trade options will become available to us that year because we have the cap flexibility to swing deals we otherwise wouldn't be able to... sacrificing the 2010 plan for a quick fix solution now would be the absolute worse thing we could do unless we were getting back a cornerstone type talent to build around like CP3, Dwight Howard, etc., & we all know that's not going to happen.
