I like this team for the fact that they work hard and compete most of the nights. They don't quit even when they go out there to play games against teams far superior on talent. They make it a game and thats a huge improvement from last season.
And the fact that this team has a plan makes it finally watchable for the next 2 years. Knicks_Fan

Optimistic but cautious. Only b/c being full-out optimistic isn't in my nature - I doubt and question everything.
It's only been 6 weeks but I really like what I'm seeing and the direction we're going as a whole though. Definitely couldn't say that about the previous regime. [Edited by - K22 on 2008-12-16 10:12 AM] -- the preceding post was brought to you by the letter K and the number 22.

How do you cast your vote w/o the vote button? Just curious...
I would've voted 'optimistic but cautious'. I like how the team is playing right now and I think we could be a playoff team. However, like we've talked about before, a .500 team is NBA pergatory as far as the draft goes. Part of me really wanted us to be bad enough to have a shot at either Blake Griffin or Thabeet. Doesn't look like that'll be the case now - looks like we'll be right in the middle of the pack come draft time. That's the trade off... I do support the team's sudden turnaround though - here's hoping we're eventually good enough to get a 7th or 8th seed in the playoffs and knock off a great team. That'll make it worthwhile to me. |

I don't understand the question because their prospects for this year and next don't matter. It's about setting things up for 2010 and beyond.
Actually, that's not entirely true, the Knicks should be looking to tank as many games this year so they can maximize the only high first round pick that they'll have these next 2 years. If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

I'm a little Skeptical to Don't Know because of how bad of a defensive team we are.
When you think about it scoring 106ppg should automatically have us on the other side of .500. We don't have a Superstar player yet we score all these pts. So if we had a Superstar would we score 110pts? 115pts? I guess the real question is if we had one then the player needs to be a defensive force. If we don't need one then we need someone who provides the team with a defensive presence. We only produce 1.9blks/gm....League Worst We allow 107ppg....Second Worst We allow 48%FG....Fourth Worst We allow 36reb....League Worst We only produce 7stls Bottom Half of League Now the thought may be to attribute these stats to pace, well if that's the case it works for our offense too. We can't have it both ways. We can't say pace dictates the poor skewed defensive numbers and then say it doesn't skew our offensive numbers. If we want to discuss our rotation is too tight/short guys are spent...well doesn't this fall in line with Skepticism because will this change anytime soon? If we feel we need better players at certain positions well doesn't every team trying to get over the hump need this? Supposedly it was mentioned before the game our coach was working on defensive schemes for the first time to stop the Suns this yr. We're talking about actually implementing certain principles and going through them in practice instead of just talking about them. IMO the team looks like the character of a team that will lose big games but win a good portion of their scheduled games. |

If there was an option for OPTIMISTIC TIMES 500000000000000, I would've voted for it. Because this team is going places, the sky is the limit, if we hit some threes last night, we win.
Tonight we rain on the lakers. my first signiature

I voted optimistic but cautious. Why?
1.) Years ago I said the Knicks would not start making progress forward until they changed the culture. A cultural change was the first step without exception. I was crucified for saying such things. Now I am viewed by many on this site as a conquering hero as the change in culture has changed everything. Mike and Walsh have done a great job making it about basketball and eliminating distractions(Marbs obviously was a mistake on their part). 2.) The youth. We are a young team and still playing competitive ball. Can't say that's a bad thing no matter when they were drafted. We have more trade peices and future rotation players on this roster than at any given time 3.) Why am I pessimistic? Still don't know who will be here and who won't. The next few trades and obvioulsy 2010 are a big question mark. In the past all trades and free agent signings were a disaster. Although I trust Mike and Walsh, my inner Knick(I call him Briggs) tells me that we are doomed!!! I just hope that people will like me

I won't say optimistic because that carries an opinion that we're going to the playoffs and I'm not so sure we will.
An entry that was forgotten from the poll was this: Are you HAPPY watching this team and is it fun to watch THIS team? The answer is an emphatic YES! I can't remember the last time I was a happy Knick fan - yelling at the TV - for them to DO WELL! As in last night "DAMN!!! Hit one of those shots! We WIN! Come'on KNIKCS you can DO IT you can hit just ONE of those wide open 3s!!!! LETS GO!!!!" Never felt better as a Knick fan since the 2001 collapse of the roster. I love watching these guys out there again. Win or Loss can't be happier that Isiah's trash has been both traded(ZachAss/Crawful) and benched(InternBury/McCurry)! It's awesome! I liken this team to the 2000(?) Magic who had a bad roster but the players loved playing and liked being around each other and won 40 games - I think that also won Doc Rivers COY? Yeah, I feel like we're that team. There is nothing to really dislike here and that's a HUGE change! Walsh is a genius! Will it all play out for the best? Nobody knows. Yet right now this team... TEAM... think about that word if you lament the Crawful/Zachass trades.... TEAM, we're a TEAM and it's fun to watch them play. http://popcornmachine.net/ A must-use tool for NBA stat junkies!

I take it you're not a fan of Zach Randolph or Jamal Crawford, Cos.

Posted by martin:Posted by GallOfFame: You could say both considering we've played 11gms with the traded players 13 without, pretty even for the most part. Game 1 Cleveland allowed 119pts they shot 53% Game 2 Detroit allowed 110pts they shot 39% Game 3 Golden State allowed 125pts they shot 45% Game 4 Portland allowed 104pts they shot 44% Game 5 Cleveland allowed 118pts they shot 51% Game 6 Atlanta allowed 98pts they shot 49% Game 7 Detroit allowed 92pts they shot 44% Game 8 Chicago allowed 105pts they shot 47% Game 9 New Jersey allowed 109pts they shot 54% Game 10 Sacramento allowed 90pts they shot 37% Game 11 Pheonix allowed 111pts they shot 45% We're 4-7 since the trade, the first game in which the new players started playing in. I'm surprised you even had to ask. But I think this goes to show how this system kind of masks what we do or don't see as fans. Or let's say it could be the kind of fans we are. Are we easily impressed with offense vs defense or even vice versa. With this team there's a serious imbalance, most of us knew this but is it possibly worse than we are discerning? It's real peculiar our players are having record setting games since the trade, putting up All-Star numbers yet we're 4-7 and amongst the worst defensive teams in the league. I don't know if stats lie but so far they don't look like they are. [Edited by - GallOfFame on 12-16-2008 11:58 AM] |
