Ewing Jr. inks deal with Knicks' D-League squad
December 15, 2008
Patrick Ewing Jr. signed with the D-League Monday and was assigned to the Knicks affiliate in Reno. Officially, he is not the property of the Knicks but he is expected to be added to the Knicks roster after Stephon Marbury's future is resolved.

Al Harrington's Player of Week honor says a lot about the Knicks forward but even more about Mike D'Antoni's system.
Under D'Antoni, the statistics of most of the Knicks have been inflated which in turn increases their trade value. Are you listening David Lee?
Zach Randolph and Jamal Crawford were putting up pinball machine-like numbers and were subsequently traded in order to get out from under their contracts. Lee's scoring and rebounding average are putting him in line for a huge extension this off-season which is exactly why the Knicks are looking to move him prior to the February trading deadline.
This is also why the Knicks need to get Eddy Curry healthy and on the floor. If Curry is fit, his offensive numbers will increase as well and soon he will be gone as well.

Once Ewing got onto the D-League he could've been assigned to any team but the fact he was assigned to the Knicks tells you he will be a Knick at some point next year.

And he is getting minutes, from his first game:
30 minutes 15pts (5-14 ouch), 1-3 3 pointers, 5 assists, 2 BS and 2Stl. (Only 2 rebs)

A bit of everything from the kid and 5 of 14 isn't terrible in hindsight, only 2 off from 50%.
Nice to see the assists, Blocks and Stls.

It's nice that Patrick Ewing's son is in some way affiliated with the Knicks, but his chances of being more than a guy who sits at the end of the bench in the nba are very small.

Yeah, not bad considering its his first game. The fact that he did a little of everything is good because thats what we would need from a backup.

He will never get 15 shots with the Knicks
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

With the injuries we have had you never know how things will work out and the chances he may get. He is an inch shorter than Lee (who plays C) but with longer reach. He could find 5 - 10 minutes. (At least till Gallo gets back).
A couple of things: don't forget he was drafted by another team. Don't forget he is the most talented athlete on our team (well, at least next to Nate), he can play defense and he plays with Intelligence... That was more than a couple of things.

Until he gets in a few games, it's all conjecture, from both sides.

And? He is not an offensive juggernaut regardless, if he spends time on the floor for defense and passing, just expect the other numbers to go up. We could use the Blocked shots and steals, we have enough scorers.

I liked EwJu. Not just because of his father but because of how he played. He played tough, he loves the game, he has heart and desire.

Yet, through it all, we must realize he really is a scrub. The only real question here is why did we not waive Malik Rose and let EwJr keep his spot? We traded Balkman for nothing just so we could keep Roberson of all hacks. Yet, we hold onto Malik? So we can't sign EwJu? I guess froma cap standpoint it made sense if we could use Malik to get rid of Jeffries or Curry in a deadline trade. Yet on the surface it stinks.

EwJu would hardly play here though - because - he's simply not that good!

Yet, from a FAN standpoint, it was an error on management's point to not make room for him.

Another thought is that if he WAS here the fans would be chanting for him to get into games that he had no business getting into games. Management wouldn't want that trauma either and I don't blame them.

It stinks he's not here but I fully understand WHY he's not.

If we resolve more than 1 roster issue I'd be happy if we signed him though - and we should. Not just on principle but because he's not all that bad out there.

Cosmic, against certain players he might be our best defensive solution (At least for a few minutes). I see him as a role player for now...
They were not going to get rid of Malik cause her serves a function in the locker (or so is the word). Also, what you said, they need to hold onto him for trade filler, if the opportunity arises.

I'm just saying it's great to have a guy like Jr. on your team. Remember those old AZ teams when Steve Curr (spelling?), etc. were there. They had a bench that added so much to the energy of that team. You had to see it to believe it. In my mind, Jr. could be that youthful presence, not to mention a GREAT practice player with that defense.

Ewing Jr. Is a good player....he has offensive skills and he can shoot it. Why he was never given more of a role in college is beyond me.

Maybe now as a pro he is getting his chance to show his talent. He' s an exciting player and the sky is the limit for him.
