Other than the mystery that is McDyess...there's not a player on this team that could be considered athletic for his position (Anderson perhaps is an exception). But other than that..we are slow & can't jump. this is not just an indictment of the Spree/KVH deal (which I don't have a big problem with). But geez...is it too much to ask for a PG with some quicks or a SG with some hops?

At PG: Frank Williams? Milos?

We are not the most athletic team but it is skill that eventually win games, the NBA has gotten away from using skill players to players that are just ESPn highlight players. If these guys can get it done then great, I don't care how, athletic or not...

A combination of both skill and athletism wins really. Teams that are just athletic don't do well, neither do those that are just old and skilled, aka the knicks. The Clippers had all kinds of hops and did not win. Sacramento, LA, Dallas and SA had both skill and athletism, so they compete for the title. At this point, athletism should come from our rooks, and possible signings of second/third tire fa's.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Athletic hmm lets c,i still remember Houston throwing a facial on McGrady when he was with Toronto. Then today in practice he threw down a few.So there goes a sg with hopes.KVK had a brake away dunk. What else,oh Lampe bringing that ball down court looks very impressive.im just wondering will he spazz if he were to have a clean lane.im alright with these players athleticism.we all cant have a L.James.

Still...I'd like it if we even had a lower guy like Ron Mercer or Eddie Robinson behind the swing or a point guard who didn't back his way up the court & played fast. Magic Johnson, J Kidd, Steve Nash...not fast, but play fast. There aren't many as good as Magic was or Kidd is, but there are plenty who put pressure on a defense. Our 3 guys seem to always back their way up the court. There's no suddenness to these guys, there's no threat.

Man I'd kill for even a Troy Hudson guy!! No, he's not great...our point guards all are just no risk, no reward types.

EISLEY AND WARD are still programmed from VANGUNDY'S DAYS OF PLAYING PG
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Eisley spent very little time under Van Gundy.

Eisley's first year was 2001, the year JVG left NY if I remember correctly. The 19 games couldn't have made that much of a impact on Eisley.

Andrew - you are completely right. I am tired of the excust about "missing training camp" or the Chaneyism "I was set back because I couldnt get my system in place in time for training camp - next season will be better" TOTAL BS!!!! Training camp may be good but it does not make or break a season. And to talk about Eisley - Van Gundy has nothing to do with his lack of skills. Also Chaney had a pre season last year and what did his programming get us? Jack squat!

Chaney had a flawed team with a Cancer who hated management with a passion. Why even bring up Chaney when he doesn't have a full roster playing for him yet. He just got Deke, waiting on Houston and hoping Dice comes back this yr. Judging him now is like judging the Lakers with out Shaq and Kobe.

That statement is direct result of the AND 1 era. I would rather see a great shooter/good defender like H20 or young Matt Carroll than an explosive very inconsistent leaper/slasher like Latrell in the game. Fundamentals win basketball games look at Utah for past 10 years. Who were the dunker/slashers on that team?

They might have won games, however how many championships have they won... Every team needs at least won slasher to break through the defences.. which gives the team more options, like either taking it to the hole, or kicking it out to a fundamentally sound shooter like Houston.

If we did not have frank, Lampe, vranes, Sweet, Milos in the pipeline, prospect of a lottery pick,

Few long term deals on the books, exept for houstan, lots of players come off the next 2 years.

Welcome to rebuilding mode. Last years of deals, then you see buy outs. We have a pipe line of PGs. Eisly will back them up one day, then be gone.

KVH comes off the books, or resigned for much less in two years.

Sweet will be productive this year at some point, Lampe was a godsend and we need to figure what to do with him. If we are lotto bound, then we can get a center or top notch swing man to replace spree, but taller. Perhaps Lampe grows and becomes our center, or he becomes Dirk.

Kt either gets traded, plays well and bolts after the season. Any trade might have to have a promise of redoing his contract. At more than the exemption, it will require a sign and trade.

I might be open to a KT-Knight for Lafrenz trade. KT is not a runner, and his contract demands might make him unreasonable. At 31, we got great service from him, his feet held up well, and perhaps we can do better in a trade. Lafrenz is not the answer, but could be a valuable tool in the right system. Lets hope KVH becomes that kind of tool in the right sysytem!

I figured we needed to bring this thread back under the current circumstances...
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Yeah I figured that it's a waste to end up starting a new thread on this topic when we can keep this one going all year. There will be more than enough material from the way things are going thus far.
