We used to celebrate the blue collar workers who busted their arses. We'd give guys like Jefferies a standing ovation, not because of his lack of skill level, but because he's doing everything he possibly can and we appreciated little things like that. Even Chris Duhon, who's so limited yet is playing above his head, hardly gets noticed by the garden crowd b/c he does nothing special in a particular play. We used to love a guy like that.

We used to frown on guys like John Wallace who had such a great offensive package, yet didn't do crap. He'd occasionally post up and make a nice move, or hit a three, and we'd like it, but we'd expect more out of a pro ball player on our team. We wouldn't dare dream of making excuses for a guy like that.

Yet now we have Tim Thomas, a decade later. After 7 full seasons of losing, and not only losing, but getting KILLED and getting worse. Now we're starting to regrow and mend our wounds, but we got Tim Thomas, who's basically the equivalent of John Wallace. Perhaps the laziest basketball player in the league is Tiny Tim, aka Fugazy. 4 years ago, we booed him for his lack of effort. NOW, he's the same exact player, and we're celebrating him b/c he hit's a few 3s and makes a nice post up move every now and then. And what's the excuse for him? It's not in his personality to be a hardworking basketball player.

We're not the same fans we once were. How sad.

YES YES YES.

I can't believe these fans say Tiny Tim tries and works hard. He doesn't work hard. He loafs up and down the court like he's in a scrimmage. As Clyde says, "Fire and Desire", thats what we want. Not heartless effort.

Can you site any credible evidence as to his laziness and lack of effort?

i think only 1 question matters:

do you enjoy watching the team? if the answer is yes, then everything else doesn't really matter (standards, 2010 plan, salary cap, coaching, etc). if the answer is no, then it's time to take a break or move on.

Allanfan, you totally left out of your equation the system they are now playing in...

Thomas definitely gave MDA all he had in the playoff run a few years back, but I suppose he was playing for a contract.

I don't think you will find much on this site that will deny tim loafs every once in a while, nor will you find posters who say Tim tries and works hard all the time.

- I love this guy. It's not a player's fault if he gets hyped up by the media. Same with Darko. It's not Darko's fault he went 2nd.
Timmy Thomas is upon us. Welcome back, TIMMY! (Knicksfansince94)

- Give it up for Timmy. He plays hard. He plays both ends of the court. He loves being a Knick. He is a solid teammate.
I know he gets hate but TT.2 has been awesome. Give the guy his props! (Cosmic)
- the guy is playing his heart out. (Cosmic)

Not to mention the guys making excuses for Tim.

-you cant expect everyone to have the Kevin Garnett type hunger and passion for basketball (Elite)

- Tim is just a different kind of cat (Misterearl)

And those who were just born yesterday

-Can you site any credible evidence as to his laziness and lack of effort? (Rookie)

This is the first good post you ever made. I agree with you. It's amazing, but I'm sure if this team starts losing then TT's "hustle" will draw a different response. I do however think he likes playing for D'Antoni and that he will give us some of his better efforts over his career. So I just suck it up and close my eyes to his loping back on D, his walking around on the defensive end away from the ball, oh and his long range jumpers against guys he's stronger and quicker than. He is who he is.
I just hope that people will like me

Did you say something rook?

I mean you're asking for evidence. Thats an insult to me. Friggin look at the guy when he plays. He doesn't play hard.

Malik Rose plays "hard" (whatever playing "hard" is)

but he's also shooting a very soft 22 per cent from the field. 22%

That, my friends, is a very low standard

Duhon Is The Invisble Man?

"Even Chris Duhon, who's so limited yet is playing above his head, hardly gets noticed by the garden crowd b/c he does nothing special in a particular play. We used to love a guy like that."

Allanfan - nice try but your premise is somewhat flawed. I think The Garden is slowly starting to recognize and embrace the effort of The Seven.

The season is still young but there are signs that Al Harrington is willing to accept the responsibillity as a clutch scorer. I heard cheers for the return of this homeboy. Lee (already a crowd favorite who defies your flawed premise) will work for rebounds, Nate (another crowd fave) will work his ass off, and Chandler will work to fill other columns of the stat sheet - even when his shot isn't dropping.

You don't like Tim Thomas - we get it.

You want to talk standards? When was the last time you heard a growing cheer for the pass that led to the assist, as it was in The Garden "back in the day"?

The standards have not changed.

The basketball IQ of the NY fans (and beat writers) has dropped.

Standards?

You want to talk freakin' standards?

Tell the gameshow-trained public address announcer at The Garden to stop over-hyping the player identification after every Knicks made basket like its the seventh game of The Finals.

I miss John Condon.

The Gazy man is just cap fodder playing well in a system that uses his talents well.

We won't have to worry about him having confetti in is hair as he accepts the 2013 finals MVP trophy from David Stern.

I don't think we shower him with praise as much as we are suprised when used properly the guy can infact play.

With Marbury gone and a players coach, the team is happy and trying hard.
