Guard Cuttino Mobley is expected to retire because of a heart condition, 1050 ESPNRadio in New York has learned. An official announcement is expected Wednesday night.

Mobley made the decision after going through a number of tests since he was dealt from the Clippers to the Knicks in the Zach Randolph trade on Nov. 21. Mobley retires as a Knick, even though he never played one game for them.

A lot of guys don't get to at least see their dreams come true due to health problems. At least he had a chance to have a good run at the highest level. Now he needs to concentrate on his health and his family. I'm hoping for the best for him and his family.

I hope the Knicks get an exemption, but it looks like a longshot right now.

i hope we get a disabled player exception approved by the NBA for him this year.

Happy trails cat. If the injury was deemed to have occured before Nov. 30 we can potentially get the exception.

Here's the thing: how the hell was he able to play EVERY game for the Clips before the trade, and as soon as he gets here, he's unable? I don't and never will understand this situation.

Not that it matters, I guess, I wasn't much looking forward to watching a 'curious' fellow like that play for the Knicks.

he signed a medical waiver to play in LA... the Knicks are not willing to allow him to play even if he signed that waiver.

Uh, it was up to Mobley to play or not. The Knicks did not restrict him from playing with this condition. He simply chose to retire because it had gotten more serious.

they pretty much made the trade to dump Zach's contract... i'm sure Walsh knew what he was getting into when he signed off on that deal.

Problem is he has always had this condition. He played for many teams with it. Only if the Knicks can prove the condition has worsened to the level that is life threatening to play him now could I see them getting an exemption.

I guess we will find out tomorrow for sure.

Remember Reggie Lewis. Put the player's health first. I don't care if he played for every other team in the league. If the doctor's say he's at risk, don't play him.

I believe initially Donnie intended for Mobley to play. After the physical it took a few days for Donnie to sign off.......

Side note. Anybody remember douche bag Dunlevy Sr. Trashing Donnie of the hold up. Muthafuk Dunlevy Sr. for eternity no chance of parole!!!!

Anyway, after tests and it became clear what was happening the Knicks left it up to Mobley and the man chose to retire.....that's what it is unless Mobley comes out and says otherwise.

This is a shame because he is a solid player, he is professional, his teammates love playing with him - he could have helped us so much during this interim time.

Yet, his retirement will lead to another guard being picked up, hopefully it will be the medical exemption for Chucky Atkins who can help us for the next two years by spelling Duhon for 10-15 minutes a night.

Then I pray we end the TruckBury saga....and then we sign EwJu with that slot.

we don't need another small G... w/lil Nate playing the SG off the bench eventually, u need a PG or combo G w/some size who can orchestrate.
