HAMILTON, Ohio -- Former NBA player Corie Blount was charged with felony drug possession after authorities saw him pick up a package they knew contained marijuana, then found more marijuana at his home, the Butler County sheriff said Friday.

Deputies watched as the U.S. Postal Service delivered a package containing 11 pounds of marijuana to a Liberty Township address northwest of Cincinnati on Thursday.

When the 39-year-old Blount picked up the package, agents followed him to his home and served search warrants on the home and the address where the package was delivered, Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones said.

At Blount's home, deputies found a second 11-pound package of marijuana, and another package containing about 7 pounds of marijuana, Jones said.

Blount was charged with felony drug possession and was released on $10,090 bond. If convicted of the charge, Blount faces one to five years in prison.

Deputies confiscated a total of 29 pounds of marijuana, a 1996 Mercedes Benz, a 2004 Cadillac Escalade, a 2000 Chevrolet Sububan, three guns and $29,500 in cash, Jones said.

Blount was the starting center on University of Cincinnati teams that reached the Final Four in 1992 and final eight in 1993, and went on to an 11-year career in the NBA. He was a first-round draft pick by the Chicago Bulls in 1993, and also played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Phoenix Suns, Philadelphia 76ers and Toronto Raptors.

Blount was a volunteer coach this season at Cincinnati State and earned a degree this year in criminal justice.

His phone number is unlisted, and court officials couldn't say whether he has an attorney.

whats up with all these cats using their names as metaphors for real life situations...Blunt gets caught with herb, and big baby was crying his eyes out.

This is a bad sign to me. I read into stuff like this.

Damn, do NBA players manage their money so bad they need to turn to slinging weed?

He'll make more money just working in an entry level job somewhere.

My favorite part of the article is where it says he just finished his Criminal Justice degree. LOL.

Starks1994, he wouldn't make more money with an entry level job. when you're talking about 29 pounds, thats some serious $.

and TMS, what's so awesome about drug trafficking?? everything! it seems like a fun/fast-paced career choice. I would never do it because the risk is way too high, but good job to those that do. otherwise, how would you get your weed???

i don't smoke weed, but have nothing against people who do... but i don't view drug trafficking as an exciting career choice or something to be proud of either.

hey I just think it's something to be proud of if you can be successful at it. I think that one should be proud of success in any field. Certainly the weed dealer does a greater public good than the liquor store owner. He takes an enormous risk so that we may all benefit from smoking the peace pipe. The only sad part is here is that he got caught. RIP Corie.

29 pounds is alot of smokin'!

I don't smoke weed, but if anyone can give me one reason why marijuana is illegal, but xanax and ritalin are legal, then I'll give you props.

Well other than major corporations profiting from making a nation of addict zombies, and that the justice system profits off locking up pot smokers. It's such a joke. When they were passing the law in 1936 to make marijuana illegal, a big reason was they didn't want white teenagers going into black and latino neighborhoods. Look it up.

Leave Corie "Smokin'" Blunts alone. How about going after real criminals, like one's who falsify intelligence and invade countries and kill 100,000 people. That seems like a far worse crime than smoking weed.

Personal use. Blount wasn't selling dope, he was just sharing it with his friends. Blount's a big guy. His friends are big. (I've heard that freaking Adam Keefe owns a bong that's bigger than Nate Robinson and that thing takes a whole ounce just to light up Rick Brunson.) Blount was stocking up for the holidays. He was supporting the economy. No big deal.

And, hey, he didn't know about that weed in his home. Who knew all those pounds of pot were taped to the back of the pinball machine in the basement? Blount just assumed Rick Fox and Shea Seals palmed those bags when they woke up under the pinball machine after partying with the Blazers and Flavor Flav after the first round of the '98 playoffs.
