who is free then?

and does this mean in 2010 we can try to sign LeBron and use the extra $$ under the cap to sign strong role players until someone like Howard becomes available?

so if i understand correctly, we would be able to pay another free agent max dollars in 2011 ?

and with recent moves, we can pay max salary in 2010?
if that is the case, then we would be sick.

also dwight has some ties to Ewing, maybe we bring in Pat as assistant coach and he can somehow get d12 to come along.

no, he's not... he signed a 3 year contract extension this past July w/a player option for a 4th that starts next season... he won't be a UFA until 2012 at the earliest... same as Dwight Howard, he's not a UFA until 2012 at the earliest either.

other bigname FA's in 2011 include Kobe, Yao Ming, Melo, Tony Parker, Paul Pierce, Pau Gasol, RJ, Tyson Chandler, Caron Butler, J Rich, Michael Redd, Tayshaun Prince, AK47, TJ Ford, Shane Battier, Jamal Crawford, Zach Randolph.

u can likely take Kobe's name off that list since he'll likely opt out after this year & sign a longterm extension to keep him in LA for the rest of his career.

I am just hoping to get a lottery pick that can contribute I guess I set my goals too low. I say Bosh and Lebron in 2010 and Paul in 2011 and then Bill Bradley in 2012.

I don't think it works that way if we sign 2 stars during the 2010 summer -- only if we sign 1 star then yes we could likely sign another in 2011.

I think we'll sign 2 stars together in 2010.

I agree...in 2011, the incremental salary increases will eat up a portion of any funds coming off the cap directly. i.e, if or more unnamed max players gets a max contract, that contract would provide for 15% increase in salary each year. So an $18m contract would increase by 2.7m. That goes for any contract that provides for increasing salaries over the term. Best case scenario is to get as many top notch players in uniform under contract in 2010 and use the draft, the mle, lle and the vet's minimum to fill in the roster for the following 6 years.

All of this talk is meaningless, though, once the CBA expires in 2011. Maybe the cap rules change, maybe they stay the same.

The Salary Cap should be around $64.8 M, in 2011, so with the 18M that Curry and JJ2 take that leaves $46M to play with, now when your under the cap you don't get the Team Exceptions, like the MLE, LLE and vets min.
