"Post-Marbury era starts with Knicks' 104-97 Garden flop againt Trail Blazers"

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/knicks/2008/12/02/2008-12-02_postmarbury_era_starts_with_knicks_10497.html

Correction: with all (cough) due respect to snappy headlines to gain attention, and Frank Isola

1. The "post-Marbury" era started last November when he bolted the team.

2. That was no flop. The Blazers are a strong young team (that many consider a model franchise), with formidable height and depth - who the Knicks led for 3 quarters with just 7 guys, despite QRich bricking and The Mayor off his game for 3 quarters. As D'Antoni said afterwards, "we simply ran out of gas".

3. Last but not least, (read my lips) Marbury is a non-issue. He is old news. Forget him.

Don't get me started on Mitch Lawrence's , "Blazers' Greg Oden misses easy ones, but his future is a slam dunk"

sheesh

Yeah, and we had what, 7 players to compete with them against (and we are a running team!)...

"As reporters closed in before the game to get the latest on the Marbury circus, Walsh quipped, "Here we go, the Senate investigative committee."

When was the last time a reporter did any substantive research to analyze the status of Eddy Curry or Danilo Gallinari?

Earl: I gave up on the media a long time ago, both in NY and nationwide. It's all sensationalism. No real stories. There has always been a slant one way or the other in our news, but I don't think journalists even attempt to be fair or play devils' advocate. It's the Brittney Spears model of journalism. What buttons can I press to get you to pay attention to me.

You know the Blazers are this team of the future and our point guard and power foward looked much better out there. Mind you the Knicks have to put up with ****ing Roberson who maybe the worst guard in the entire league. Seriously can this guy make a jumper, why is he in the nba.

You give this team Nate instead of Roberson and Mobley instead of Richardson with some spot Jefferies minutes I am confused as why everyone is so down on the team.

Our GM coach combo is as good as just about any in the league, top 5 without question. Have to love the direction of the team.

MS - and these guys get paid?

bippity - what gets me is the amount of blind acceptance from so-called "knowledgeable" fans. The same people who follow the Knicks passionately and desperately seek some reasonable facsimile of quality reporting, will accept the daily drivel as fact.

The Seven Dwarfs played their collecetive asses off last night for as long as they could. This is no excuse but - Where was the mention of Duhon's bad back, Lee's ankle, Al Harrington's rust, Quentin Richardson's holding down a starting spot he has performed terribly inconsistent in - or The Mayor's bum knee?

How long can the same Marbury nonsense be played?

If there is yet another plagiarized story about how Donnie Walsh is sitting around waiting for 2010 some heads need to roll. How about a story that recognizes the baby steps in the right direction?

Or the immediate possibility of playing the Blazers dead even with one quality addition in the backcourt to check Roy? Or that David Lee manned-up in Oden's grill?

Forget the soap opera. Where are my straight-cash basketball homies?

Maybe I am just and idiot, who knows good talent when I see it, but we have a team blending talent together. Granted our schedule has been favorable, however, I see guys excited about playing, supporting each other and having fun out there. Which is the most important thing in building a team.

Donnie Walsh has been on the job less then 6 months and he has already, brought in one of the top 4 coaches in basketball, made a tremendous trade for Al Harrington, and managed to trade the worst contract on the entire team for players that can provide value in our coaches system. Not to mention the best off season signing in the league for value.

Duhon, has simply become a leader, the teams captain and is coming into his own as a player and getting everyone involved. Do we have any All-Stars no we don't but have a team assembling pieces in Duhon, Harrington, Nate, Lee and Chandler.

What we are doing here is creating value for our players something we haven't done in four years. If these *******s actually had any clue what they are writing about they would see that.

I would go one step further. Guys like TT, Harrington are going to put up stats and look not so bad to a playoff contending team around the trade deadline. Both have semi-reasonable contracts, and if we can dump them again for players and picks, well we are better for it.

man the media seems to be blowing it again with the old "don't **** where you eat" thing. they finally got a regime in the garden that was open and not trying to manipulate every word that came out. and now, they've put selling a few papers over these few months ahead of developing any kind of constructive relationship with walsh and d'antoni. i couldn't have any less respect for most of those clowns.

Masterplan - what bothers me the most about the bandwagon jumpers masquerading as beatwriters, is they focus on the obvious past. Then they turn around and attempt to predict the future as if anything is promised. Anyone can look through the rear view window and spot the problems. When the Knicks lose, the sky is falling.

When they win, its is an aberration. But wait, Lebron is coming, Lebron is coming!

How many of these writers look at trends beyond the final score and write with any vision or compelling vocabulary? Has a NY beat writer ever coined an original term? No.

Where is the nuanced analysis of the Knicks present playing personality? Or what available players (this year or next) project to fit that personality?

Are they really anyting more than glorified parrots?

If they don't have anything original, take the day off. Give me (or djsu, or marv, or killa4luv...etc for that matter) that free courtside seat and any one of us will work to write a compelling story about Knicks basketball that will make a true conoisseur of hoops use his or her brain for a change.

There is a reason newspapers are as obsolete as rotary dial telephones.

To add... I only saw the first 2 quarters and part of the 3rd quarter last night and actually saw some defense being played. Where was the mention of that in the articles today?

Thats why I say ban the NY papers...especially Berman. They are just tabloids. At least never pick up a paper. Check your horoscope on your phone....read the comics on the internet...same for the lotto numbers and movie times....just say know to the papers.

mr. earl - sometimes they'll come up with a witty headline, but their creativity and insight usually ends there

martin - i've heard it said that d'antoni doesn't practice or coach defense. but watching these games, our players clearly have assignments and are hustling on their rotations and switches. that said, most of them are still limited defenders and end up mismatched in size.

Berman is what is commonly known as a "one trick pony". Throw him in a shallow pond that required an original stroke and he would drown.

When Berman tried to stick that oh so lame, "Italian Stallion" nonsense on Gallinari after the draft, I wrote him a respectful note to please cut that ish out. The young man's career would discover its own voice on the court, without some silly hook. Did he listen?

No.

On the other hand, The Mayor is a "good times" hook you can believe in, grow with and smile along with, at the same time.

I miss Cuttino Mobley.

Isola also wrote the Knicks were up 75-67 going into the fourth, but we were only up 75-71. Does he have fact checkers?
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Everyone attacks Berman and yet everyone reads him not realizing that they are part of the problem. When Berman writes an article and 80 people respond to it, do you think he cares that 90% of the responses are negative? Do you think the Post cares? They don't care if you agree or disagree with what they write. They care that you read it. And all the people that complain, read it and then come on here and talk about it. Myself included. That's what they wwant.
