(Apologies if someone already posted on this gem of a quote)

Marbury said that D’Antoni did not order him to play but merely gave him “the option to play.”

So we're supposed to believe that in the middle of the game, D'Antoni went over to Marbury on the bench, and said something along these lines:

"Hey Stef, what's up? Listen, we're in a very tough situation here, and, if possible, it would be, you know, really keen if you can take off your sweats and, you know, sort of enter the game and give us some much-needed minutes. But if you opt not to do this, you know, it wouldn't be that big a deal. So it's really your call here. So to recap and clarify: I am giving you the option to go into the game, and if you decline the option it's, you know, cool with me. Thanks for your time and careful consideration in this matter, and enjoy the rest of the game!"

What a wanker.

this is how it all went down as reported directly from Marbury & his sidekick Berman:

Stephon Marbury Stephon Marbury told The Post today that Mike D'Antoni's portrayal that he refused to play in Friday's game in Milwaukee is inaccurate.

Marbury said his initial conversation with D'Antoni didn't last long enough for him to refuse to play.

According to Marbury, D'Antoni told him in the mid-afternoon he had 20-to-25 minutes for him in the wake of the Jamal Crawford Jamal Crawford trade. The conversation took place before the second trade left the team with just seven able bodies.

"He said, 'I have 20, 25 minutes for you if you want to play,'" Marbury said Saturday morning. "I said, 'You've told me you're going in another direction and I'm not in the plans.'"

At that point, D'Antoni didn't bother to press the issue, according to Marbury. "He had a smile on and just said, 'I totally understand it, I get you,'" Marbury said.

Marbury said he didn't think D'Antoni was upset and was shocked to read D'Antoni's rough comments in the newspaper today.

that might not have been a direct refusal, but it damn sure doesn't make him seem like he's all that enthused about the idea, now does it? i'm pretty sure any head coach would not have pressed the issue at that point either but it doesn't excuse the fact that Marbury was acting selfishly in this instance... you'd figure someone being paid $22 mil woulda just suited up no questions asked & gave it his all regardless of the manner in which he was asked or the situation the team had put him in, but of course when it comes to Marbs this was no shocker.

We probably should make this a Classic Steph quote thread.

Including his references to Z-Bo as "younger, youthier" and a "lefthanded southpaw." among others
-- the preceding post was brought to you by the letter K and the number 22.

“If I didn’t play the way how I played, I wouldn’t have gotten no max contract,” he said. “They can talk about whatever they wanna talk about me, because I got maxed. I’m a max player. Don’t get mad at me, because I’m telling you what’s real. One plus one is two, all day long, and it’s never gonna change. And that’s factorial.”

Just thought of something while reading his quote and trying to picture it. If you are in a foxhole facing the other way and you got shot by your own guys, wouldn't you get hit in the butt instead of head? I think i am on to something here. . .

He flexed a real hard juice card, I know that. So he definitely made me aware of what he can do. But that doesn’t scare me at all.

Question is, when they were in that foxhole why was Marbury facing the other way? He might not have a gun but he should at least be looking out for his teammates.

Marbury also has this over him: of the 130 mil he's made in his career, more than half came from the Knicks. If 68 mil doesn't buy loyalty from Steph nothing ever will. More than half his money in a 12-13 year NBA career. The guy was with the Knicks for 4 years and he made a ton of cash. In that time he never made the All-Star game, never won a playoff game, never made the All-NBA teams.

This guy has only made 2 all-star games in his whole career made maybe 3-4 playoffs appearances and never won a playoff series.

This guy came here on the downside of his career and made the most money, caused the most embarassment a knick fan has ever endured, and now is admitting he wasn't even facing the same direction as his teammates. Mother****er you get paid to play even if you're on the bench you better be facing the same direction as your teammatges.

Get the **** outta here.

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

My sister Stephanie's been praying for this day forever, and it finally happened yesterday when I kissed her, and I felt her body, and I felt her soul. I was delighted to be kissing her.

Did ya’ll see? Did ya’ll see we got Zach Randolph? Did anybody see that? Now we got a beast to throw the ball down low to. They scared now! We got Zach Randolph and Eddie Curry! We got Eddie Curry on one side and we got a left hand, southpaw, switch it up, think he’s goin’ shoot right, but he switch it left [on the other side]. You can’t beat that. It was a power move, we got a young, youthier player with the young Zach Randolph.

That's why I don't understand why some fans think he deserved better treatmeent than Jerome James. He got respect when we said he was not part of the future plans. We at least told him where he stands. We also told him we would do what we could for him. At that point he needs to shut up and follow orders like we expect JJ to

he's been looking the other way his entire career... he can give a rat's ass about his teammates... Steph's always been about Steph... you reap what you sow.

I wonder what Gus said AFTER the camera was rolling. He looked like he wanted to run for the hills.
