I saw a Dr J in his prime and one of the best was dunking on Artis Gilmore who stood7-4.
Dr. J had a ballet like quality to his dunks. His dunks were art. Jordan-David Thompson were very similar with great leaping ability and seemed to fly, but faster then Dr. J. Lebron at 23 has incredible Power to his abilty to fly. Very different to the others. He has a much better shot than Erving/Jordan who were pretty skinny in their early 20s. Thompson was a better shooter than Erving/Jordan. Only cocaine could stop Thompson. He was that good! Lebron is showing a mental toughness even earlier than Jordan, who I consider the greatest because of that intangible quality. Kobe has been pretty impressive thus far. Kobe is better than Jordan physically but I doubt he'll be a durable due to the amount of games played. Lebron has a few more rings to get before he can truely be in the Jordan-Kobe league. Dr. J basically carried the nets on his back to two ABA championships in three years. ABA did not Celtic-Knicks-Lakers like caliber teams but the Kentucky, Indiana, Spurs and Nuggets were NBA playoff quality and gave the nets a good run. Nets never had a quality center. |
