We all see D'Antoni is an offensive genius who can use scrap parts and create a masterpiece, we all know we are a work in progress but here is my current assessment of the New York Knicks.

I Believe the wooing of Lebron James or whatever star can't just be an issue of 2010 however we should look to add a piece to the pie this summer as well as next...

Currently the these Knicks look good and I believe we are seeing the difference maker of David Lee's Athleticism as opposed to Zach Randolph pound em down low mentality...

One thing that sticks out to me is the New York Knicks will have quite a few players with player options this summer...
Eddy Curry 10.5m in 09-10
Al Harrington 10m in 09-10
Quentin Richardson 9.3m in 09-10
JJ Fat 6.6m in 09-10

As I see it Eddy Curry is a viable opt out option for the New York Knicks, he has yet to play this season, and i'm sure to see his buddy Jamal Crawford be traded Eddy has to be already looking out the door

Al Harrington and Quentin May look to play out their deals but you never know one may opt out, maybe both...

if Quentin does I would look to see him take a considerably smaller amount of $$$ in the new deal

Al Harrington may be playing for more than just Knick pride and perhaps a new deal as well. I say play with your heart on your shoulder, he has the ability to be what the New York Knicks have been missing.

JJ Fat will eat his way to the very end of his deal knowing if he opts out he will have few to no possible suitors...

With expirings Stephon Marbury 21.9m and Malik Rose 7.6m this offseason coming off the books I'd say for now unless he was dealt...throw in Curry at 10.5, thats 40 million off the books for 09'...Donnie you're a genius

09 Roster
C David Lee 2.6m
PF Al Harrington 10m (Possibly Resigned)
SF Quentin Richardson 9.3m
SG Wilson Chandler 1.2m
PG Chris Duhon 6m

Bench
PG Nate Robinson 2.9m
PF Jared Jeffries 6.4m
SF Tim Thomas 6.4m
SF Danilo Gallinari 3.0m
SG Cuttino Mobley 9.9m
SG Anthony Roberson 800K
C JJ Fat 6.6m
C Eddy Curry Likely to be moved or opt out 10.5m

With Curry 69.5 mil in 09
Without Curry 59 mil in 09

I would like to know what you guys believe will be the Knicks Plan as we move forward???

Do we look to 09 Free Agent Ron Artest to fill in that Q Rich enforcer role, or just continue to shed contracts and not upgrade the roster until 2010...

Eddy won't leave the money. No one will give him that much money unless he plays and does well. It's not very important that we get rid of QRich or JJ. JJ might bring a medical exception. Eddy and Fish have to be showcased when they get into game shape and traded for an expiring. Lee, Nate, Chandler, and possibly Gallinari and Duhon should be the core to build around.

i don't see Curry opting out, no team's gonna sign him to more than the $10 mil he's due to make next year regardless... at least not until he shows he can be the player he was before Zach got here... same goes for Q Rich & Jerome James.

Harrington might opt out for the same reasons Jamal was probably going to opt out... there's a lack of top talent in free agency this year... in that case i can see the Knicks re-signing him to an extension & letting someone like D Lee go, or possibly trading Lee in a draft day trade to acquire another pick the way they tried to last year in a S&T where we'd get a pick & an expiring deal.

of course, if Donnie can somehow work another miracle & dump Curry & Jefferies this year for contracts that expire after next season, then we can keep both Harrington & D Lee & still have the cap space to attract 2 bigname FA's in 2010.

if Isiah were still GM i can see us going after Ron Artest, but i don't see Walsh wanting a repeat of the same fiasco that went down in Indy w/him again... i don't think he's going to sign anyone significant w/the MLE unless he can get Nate to agree to a MLE extension to stay, but more likely he'll have to go higher than the MLE & sign Nate to a Bird Exception contract instead.

i think Walsh is going to continue to keep 2010 open in terms of salary & that's going to dictate every move he makes from now on pretty much.
