In what was possibly the worst defensive effort I have witnessed by two NBA teams...Our coach only critique was that Lee should have scored 50 points...I think he also said Duhon should have racked up 30 assist...He also said, don't worry they will learn...Golden State fielded what amounted to be a high school all star team last night...No one played defense...What was alarming was that MDA mentioned nothing about lack of defensive effort...In the post game press conference I totally expected the coach to go nuts about the lack of defense...He said nothing...

what's he supposed to say on a night when his PG sets a new franchise record in assists & 2 of his other players have monster nights? "I'm severely disappointed at this team's lack of defensive effort."?

yes!!!

Eh? Run-and-gun offense means the other team will get theirs as well. They played defense well enough to win. It's not we are used to but the name of the game is for your team to score more than the other team. I swear to god, if we win 70-65 people will complain when the coach does not say anything about their offensive inadequacy. Take it easy and enjoy the ride.

i agree... i also think 65-70 peeps would complain under the same circumstances.

The Knicks played short handed. If they played defense to the max some would have fouled out most of the guys. Sometimes you have to balance defense efforts and pick and choose when to play it especially when playing short handed.

D Lee & Harrington need to spend more time focusing on D'ing up there guys instead of scoring all those points & grabbing all those rebounds... disgraceful, completely disgraceful. i never want to see a score like that ever again. i'd much rather win by 2 points & have this team play some defense cuz that's what Donnie brought me here for afterall, to be a defensive guru."

D'Antoni could preach defense all day until he is blue in the face, but this current lineup will never be a good defensive team.

Our only hope is to look to outscore opponents, not stop opponents. We would need to rebuild our whole frontcourt as well as backups in order to become a legit defensive team.

its about scoring more than the opponent. Even though the Knicks have been scoring they have trouble getting getting timely hoops and key stops......that's the difference between good teams and bad.

Holfresh has had a hard-on for D'antoni from day-one. He was one of the ones against the hiring of D'Antoni and since that day, anything D'Antoni has done he's been quick to find a negative. Knicks win, we play no defense. D'Antoni and Marb have a fallen out, take a guess at who he chooses to side with?

holfresh, would u have had a problem w/this if we'd hired the coach you wanted & we had the same results in last night's game? i'm not talking in general, just last night's game... of course we all wish this team would play some defense but it's not realistic to think they would have, regardless of who was coaching them... Larry Brown is a defensive minded coach & look how pitiful this team looked on D that year... we just don't have the personnel yet.

Given the comments, I guess many here don't care too much about defense either...Well in my estimation, Championships aren't won without defense...If we are rebuilding towards a Championship caliber team, you aren't going to do it by offensive output but rather defensive effort...

It's not about complaining even if we win...It's about trying to put this losing organization on the right path to long term victory...Many here has just gulped the MDA and Walsh kool-aid without even questioning their moves and motives...Nothing they do can be questioned or second guessed...MDA had the best possible line-up to win a Championship executing his style perfectly while with PHX...They never played D and lots of times ran out of gas late in the season...They fell short in the playoffs...Now, don't get me wrong, hell, MDA has done a great job with what he has been given thus far...But this organization will continue to lose if we don't play defense now or two years from now....

Getting to the playoffs don't give me a woody...Winning Championships does...If you think you're gonna win outscoring your opponent, you haven't been paying attention to who has been winning Champioships...

i guess there's no accounting for the fact that the Spurs had a guy named Tim Duncan playing in the same conference... Pat Riley had the perfect team to play the type of basketball he wanted to implement too... they didn't win a ring cuz some dudes named MJ & Olajuwon were around back then... does that make him a bad hire in your eyes? u can't hire coaches or acquire players w/any guarantees that a championship will be won... u lay the best plans u can & hope for the best... the plan for 2010 is just a plan, not a guarantee... u guys seem to want things signed sealed & delivered w/every single move we make, whether it be a coaching hire, a draft pick, a free agent signing or a trade... things don't work that way in the real world... the only thing u can do is form a logic behind the moves u make & u stick to a cohesive plan to try to position urself on a path towards success, whatever happens after that is beyond ur control.

During the game D'Antoni was said to be upset with the defensive effort, particularly in transition at times, according to Breen.

Anyway, the Knicks are not a defensive team, don't really have the players to be a very good defensive team, and we were playing a team that wasn't even trying at all on D.

The season is 82 games long, so why go crazy when you demolished the other team?

The fact that he was still HOLDING THEM TO HIGH EXPECTATIONS in any regard is the thing that matters most, to me.
