Should we pick this guy up on the cheap? He's 37 years old, but might have a year left in him...

Although that might impede lampe's development... Mutumbo wants to contribute. This guy might be going to t-dot.

I wont complain if we get rid of Charlie and pickup up Deke.

We DONT have a center. So i see no problem with it as long as we keep our rooks out there. We cant go through another season without an interior defending center, its just way too painful to watch.

We still have most of our mid level exception and i wouldn't mind spending some money on him. He still has a couple more productive years in him.

besides the fact that mutumbo is really slow and can't catch the ball and has no offense, he's still serviceable.

come on, if mutumbo were any good, why would jersey cut him to play Collins? 6-9 Aaron Williams?

Hey at this point any center 6-10 or taller is a good center. I would even take Wang Zhi Zhi believe it or not. Beggars cant be choosers.

Only reason why jersey gave up on Mutumbo is because of cap numbers + Alonszo and he is one dimensional as far as Byron Scott is concerned

If Mutombo signs then the time for Sweetney and Lampe to play is cut severely! I think he can help but ITS using the same old recipe that has not worked before! NY finally has some young players, lets use them, lets DEVELOP them! If Mutombo comes then they MUST trade KT and Ward to GS for NICK the QUICK. They will have made the decision to go for it this year by signing DEKE so might as well go to NVE too. Then rebuild again next year or the year after. By trading KT it will allow Sweetney and Lampe to develop.

Sign Deke, get Nick, play Dice - hmmm sounds a lot like a failed team named the Denver Nuggets. Dont like the sound of that.

I didnt think about the effect signing Deke would have on the minutes for Sweetney and Lampe - they need to play. That should be priority #1. The question is, does the Knick brass understand that? Does Chaney get it?

VanExcel is not going anywhere so you can kill that plan, If Ny is going after deke then it's on for this yr. KVH lost weight ,KT lost some weight they are trying to compete this yr if they get Mutmbo no doubt!

we can not compare the line up of the past denver nuggets because dice was a rookie and besides those three the next best player was what, george mccloud? i think that lineup would do well in the east, but only if dice is healthy. remember, mutumbo can still block shots and rebound. that is all we need for him. we do not need him to score. we need a defensive stopper who will clean up the defensive mistakes than van horn and houston will make. this should'nt be debatable. sign him for two years only and see what happens. the worst case secenerio is that he will be benched and tutoring vranes and lampe on how to be effective centers in the nba. but if i was mutumbo, i would sign with dallas or indiana, since they have a much better chance of winning a championship than the knicks, sixers or raptors.

I dont doubt Deke would contribute to this team and help close up some of our defensive holes. But he does have drawbacks too. The biggest is that Chaney wants to run this year but Deke is slow. We will see what happens, realistically I dont think the Knicks have a chance at getting him. He is definitely more likely to go to a championship contender or to Philly since his family lives there.

Deke has to want ot stay in tri state area , he has the fund helping his home country in Africa. What better place would give him indorsements and channel money to the fund but NY!

Lampe plays backup small forward and Sweetney plays backup PF or Lampe plays backup PF and Sweetney plays backup SF. Deke plays Center. Where in that do you see them losing playing time? If worse comes to worse we just sit Deke, how hard is that? I dont want to shoehorn Lampe into playing center unless we have to anyway. This fits perfectly.

Deke at the 5 opens up some interesting possibilities with out lineup especially if Dyess comes back. It would be easier to fit Lampe and Sweetney in without them having the pressure of the franchise on them from the start. They can be on the court with some leadership and experience - which will help mold them into better players. But Chaney has to recognize that they need minutes to get better. None of this F-Will benching for the season stuff..I expect Lampe and Sweetney to crack the rotation starting from the preseason on.

playa, apparently the NVE thing is not DEAD!

http://www.nypost.com/sports/knicks/40937.htm

I agree with one thing. If they sign Mutombo and get NVE they are once again looking to win now. It may make the season exciting but it will hurt the development of Lampe, Sweetney and Fwill. Which, for me, is the most important thing this year.

not necessarily. i think having deke, nve and dice would help them develop better. they will learn the game better by learning from these three. i mean, these three are all- star caliber players. who is f- will going to learn from. eisley? how to shoot air ball threes? i am really thinking about lampe. if we want him as the center of the future, who better, except ewing or zo, will have the patience to teach him the post game? so when deke is gone in two years, lampe will blow it up during his contractual year. and, no matter what happens to dice, i think sweetney will be good enough to crack the rotation.

Yea Gony I read that too, I based my comment on Garry St Jean saying he wouldn't trade Vanexcel because they gave up Jamison- Allstar.

Getting Thomas, Ward, and cash would really help Golden State in what they are trying to accomplish. The way i see it, a line-up of Mutombo, McDyess, Van Horn, Houston, and Van Exel is one of the strongest in the league, not considering the youth of Lampe and Sweetney off the bench. We could easily be one of the top 3 or 4 teams in the east within a couple of weeks if these transactions take place.

Food for thought:

If we do get Deke and Van X -
Will Lampe and Sweetney get minutes? Especially if Dyess comes back at full or half strength?

Will Vujanic come to NY if Van X solidifies as the man at the PG position here?

If we are in rebuilding mode why would we sign 2 vets to win now? Doesnt look like rebuilding, but smells a lot like the patwork fixes that got us here in the first place. It looks exciting but the side effects could spell disaster for the NY future.
