It's part of the Marbury trade that they acquired from Phoenix.

Utah got it from PHX. They got both our #1s from PHX, took Kirk Snyder a few years back, this is the other #1 from the Marbury trade.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Phoenix traded the pick markvmc is talking about to Utah in a salary dump trade.

We traded 2 first round picks to Phoenix and one of them goes to Utah b/c the Suns traded it to them. This is the pick we still owe, and from then until this year, it has protection, but in 2010 (Next season) we have to cough it up, with no protection.

This is from the Marbury trade. We can technically give it up this season but it's protected.

if we finish with like a top 8 record this year or something like that then we can give it to them this year instead right?

It's protected from picks 1-22 for 2009, but unprotected in 2010, from what I understand.
2009 first round draft pick to Utah
New York's own 2009 1st round pick to Utah via Phoenix (top 22 protected in 2009, and unprotected in the 2010 Draft). [New York - Phoenix, 1/5/2004 and then Phoenix - Utah, 2/19/2004]

2009 second round draft pick to Portland
New York's own 2009 2nd round pick to Portland via Chicago [Chicago - New York, 10/4/2005 and then Chicago - Denver - Portland, 6/26/2008]

It's amazing just how dumb Isiah Thomas is; the hot dog vendor on the street could have done a better job with negotiating than this ****ing *******.

1. Jamal Crawford
-gave the guy a 7 year deal, while taking on JYD long term contract (21 million)
2. Malik Rose
-took on 23 million in order to secure two late round picks which could be secured for 3 million and not harm the cap
3. Marbury
-gave them nearly 35 million in cap relief and two picks
4. James
-player option and a five year deal
5. Jefferies
-a five year deal with a trade kicker
6. Curry
-two first round draft picks, a long term contract when no one else was interested and a trade kicker
7. Q
-took on three years of salary in order to secure the 21st pick

Not to mention the coaching diasters, the draft situation is just disgraceful

That's not to mention Vin Baker, every other team killing trade, and the terrible Channing Frye pick.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

not to mention a 1st round pick Balkman which in turn only translated back in a trade for a 2nd rounder because they drop the other two losers. The only thing IT did right was getting David Lee

David lee was picked by Assiah Tomas which was a good pick and so was Wilson Chandler which was another good pick. thats it. everything else was horrible.

What we've learned is taht Isiah is a pretty good talent scout, but a horrible GM/President/Person. He was just in over his head.
I just hope that people will like me
