SEATTLE -- Seattle SuperSonics rookie Nick Collison needs surgery on both shoulders and will miss the season.
"It's very disappointing. I've wanted to play in this league since I was 8 or 9, and now I'll be out for a year," the power forward said Saturday.
Collison was the 12th overall draft pick this year after leading Kansas to the NCAA championship game.
He averaged 18.5 points and 10 rebounds as a senior.
The 6-foot-9 Collison dislocated his left shoulder early this week, and later tests showed similar weakness in his right shoulder
Now see how some people cried for this guy and we picked up Sweetney instead. Layden made the right choice when he past on this Collison kid out of Kansas.
Both of those guys, Collison and Sweetney were not the right choice for us. The best choice would have been someone like Travis Outlaw or Ndudi Ebi - guys who are really raw right now, yet have a chance of becoming great, athletic 3's... We could have traded down, gotten one of those two guys and picked up an extra 2nd rounder, which we could have used to get Malick Badiane - who is still overseas, or Lang, who Charlotte picked up.
If sweetney has a better career than Othella Harrington, I would be shocked. That is no knock on harrington though, who has been a starter at PF on the Griz and here in NY. He's just a below avg. starting PF in the league though.
