Yeah, same reason why Lebron will leave Cleveland for NY.

Orlando had a MUCH MUCH MUCH better team at that time (pennny, every year in the ECF, etc)

But Shaq wanted that market. It's going to happen folks!!!

Shaq left Orlando because Orlando did not show him the money and handled the situation wrong. Cleveland is bending over for Lebron; it is a slightly different situation. The only thing that would prompt Lebron to leave is if Cleveland fails to win a championship and it does not look like they can get better. Right now they look pretty damn tough, so we just have to wait and see.

Remember Shaq was already Hollywood with the music & movie career, that was a natural fit. His personality is so huge, he needed that city just so there were enough reporters to record his quotables.

I really think folks need to fall back from the notion that it is a foregone conclusion that LeBron will be a Knick. I'm envisioning the Nike campaign in 2010 when he re-signs with a playoff-ready Cleveland... black and white, him on the playground courts of Akron or Cleveland or wherever in Ohio... voiceover comes in tugging your heartstrings about loyalty, staying true to your hometown, what have you.

LeBron has all the juice. As long as wherever he goes is NBA Finals-bound, he can figure out how to make his money. Championship rings are really what he needs for his legacy. This guy was on the cover of Vogue... he can figure out how to make his money even if he stays in Ohio.

He makes far more money with the Knicks then with the Cavs when it comes to advertising. But it's good to keep thinking of scenarios where he would stay with Cleveland, it makes the next 2 seasons less awkward.

If Lebron can win in NY (Which he will be able to.. since we will put a good team around him with a 2nd max contract.. Nash, Nate, Lee, Chandler, Gallo etc...) it's a NO BRAINER.

Let's just say YOU are Lebron.

Here are your choices:
New York City, Win, probably 5 times as much money, megastardum (maybe biggest sports star ever, up there with Jordan, Ali, etc)

Cleveland. Win, Less money, Less stardum, Less glory. More loyalty.

please. Its not even a choice

last I checked Lebron isnt lacking in endorsements and has huge global contracts. The billion of people in China are buying Lebron jerseys and shoes regardless.

Also there is nothing stopping Cle from resigning Lebron AND getting Wade/Bosh/Amare etc to play with him as they will have as much cap space as anyone.

Its a no brainer for Knick fans. Also a no brainer for Net fans, Cle fans, Heat fans and the rest of the league's teams with max cap space.

Basically, not a lot of brains.

I would love to have him, and we have given ourselves a chance, but we have a lot more to accomplish. A LOT more. Add to it that history is working against you... bigtime.

Shaq left Orlando for many reasons. One of the biggest was his relationship with his baby mama and the fact that he didn't marry her. Not to mention he was clashing with Penny (Shaq thought that he wasn't getting the ball enough in the paint while Penny thought the ball was going into the paint too much).
