We need to start giving our young players experience and winning habits. Guys like Nate, Chandler, Lee etc.. They need to become legit NBA players.. and Legit NBA players win. They need playoff experience so that when Lebron does come, hes not just totally starting over hes got some guys who know a little something about the wars they are about to embark on. I want to see this team make the playoffs, and I think we have an outside shot.

Question is this: In a close game, who gets the ball with the game on the line? Right now I want the ball in Nate's hands.. Nate or even Duhan to make a play for someone else... Maybe Al Harrington but I have to see him play more.

Another Question: in 2010... Can we resign guys like Al Harrington, Q Rich & Chris Duhan AFTER we sign Lebron & Superstar Friend on some bird rights ****? Like can Al actually be a piece of the puzzle? or does he have to just expire for us to get under the cap...?

But our core isnt deep nor talented enough to warrant not getting a high draft pick (jury may still be out on Chandler though). If we make the playoffs then it is imperative to turn one of our assets into draft picks.

our core will be our signees in 2010.

i think guys that end up staying for the long haul are nate chandler and gallo. fack every body else. only one of those guys will probably be a starter. 2 maybe 3 signees, including james (who ofcourse gets the bulk of the dough), plus whatever picks.

i may consider duhon because he's solid as hell, but q can split. we'll see how al works out. i think he'll do well.

Answer to your second question. We have to renounce the rights to most of those guys to sign Lebron plus. However if we just wanted enough room to sign Lebron, we could sign some of those guys.

Now the best thing would be to trade Curry and Jeffries. Then we could re-sign Lee, Nate and possibly Duhon for 2010.

Remember even if we re-sign Lee for 8 mil a year and Nate for 6 mil a year, we could front load the deals.

I.e. if Lee got a 5 yr 40 mil contract, his contract could be structured to make 6 mil in year 1, 7 mil in year 2, 8 mil in year 3, 9 mil in year 4, 10 mil in year 5. Same idea with Nate. Could manufacture the deals to give us a little more space in 2010.

playoffs don't mean jack squat dudes... we need to just focus on developing the guys we got & then whatever happens, happens... the last time this team sneaked into the playoffs they got completely embarassed in the first round by the Nets & then had the nerve to feel like they actually accomplished something that year... given this is a different group of guys but we can't look at the playoffs as some kind of benchmark towards success... making it there is fine but it's what u do when u get there that determines whether or not u can call the season a success.

I think it is important to start creating a winning tradition and by that I mean have a nice winning record and have a solid playoff run. Now, with this team, only a few of the pieces are going to remain on the team so its hard to see this season as one where we definitely must make the playoffs to improve. I can see this season as the first one where we try D'Antoni's system, work hard and if the playoffs happen, well, so be it. But THIS specific season, it may be more important to get the best pick in the draft and get good talent that will not be so costly. Thats the reason why I believe our first round pick is untradeable unless of course is for a better pick or a real young prospect. Remember we won't have 2010's pick, so this year's becomes more important.

I do think that the best thing that can happen for next season is to make the playoffs. Not only isn't the pick ours, but it will show free agents we had the talent to make the postseason play and that if they sign they will improve it and make us contenders. So yeah, make the playoffs next season, but this season? I'd rather see them work hard, improve, get close and then get a great draft pick. The Bulls weren't the worst team last season and won the lottery. This could be our year in the draft.

Good post elite. I agree and I think making the playoffs this season would be HUGE for us (although I'm not yet convinced that we will, its still early).

Not just in terms of developing our players, but also in terms of raising our players' trade value. Whenever you have young guys that have shown they can contribute to a winning team, then you have guys with a lot of trade value in this league.

People keep harping on the fact that these contracts we have just acquired will allow us to use FA to sign star players and become an elite team again. That is not the only way to build though. If our young guys and our vets show they can win this season, then guess what, you can also improve through trade. The second good part about having those contracts we just acquired is that they can be dealt next season if the right deal comes along. Those expiring contracts have the potential to be very good assets and if we play our cards right, we can trade one of those for an impact player and give LeBron even more of a reason to come in FA in 2010.
"This is a very cautious situation that we're in. You have to be conservative in terms of using your assets and using them wisely. We're building for the future." - Zeke (I guess not protecting a first round pick is being conservative)

But getting into the playoffs is so much more boring than going down in flames.
