Unemployment Extension Legislation Update

November 20, 2008: The Senate approved legislation already passed by the House to extend unemployment insurance for seven weeks for unemployed workers who are out of benefits and for an additional 13 weeks of benefits for those in states with an unemployment rate higher than 6%. White House Press Secretary Dana Perino says President Bush will sign the legislation.

According to the National Employment Law Project, "Ttoday’s action helps more than 1.16 million workers who have already run out of their limited 13 weeks of extended benefit or who were scheduled to do so before the end of the year during the holiday season."

Once the unemployment extension is signed, extended benefits will be administered by the state unemployment offices. So, check with your State Unemployment Office for information on what benefits you are entitled to and when you can expect to receive them.

More jobs would be better news.

I don't know how the hell they expect the drowning economy to recover within several weeks? It's going to take a long time and Wall Streets still looking for a bottom right now. Benefits are going to have to be continuosly raised, because finding a job right now is like finding a needle in the haystack. A big heystack!

ur not kidding dude... the job market sucks balls right now out here in LA... i can't even get hired on an entry level job cuz i'm over qualified & they don't wanna have to pay for experienced level candidates... sucks.

sucks they only approved 7 weeks this time... like u said it's gonna take a helluva longer time than that to straighten out this economy & most companies aren't looking to hire at year's end... least they could done was extend this through til April of '09 when income taxes are due.

Take a look at the other thread I posted regarding the 3 big car companies. I put a nice article on there that kind of outlines Obama's first duties as president. I really like this guys vision. There is a lot of hope, it's just going to take some time to get it all moving again.

Do what you can to hang in there. Also keep in mind, I really believe as we go along in the future, the environment is going to be the main driving force for business and there is a lot of it that is going to be addressed and implemented. You might want to keep an eye on what he's planning and maybe look into those kinds of jobs, areas also. There is definately a future in the environmental sector.

any word on whether or not Obama will approve another tax stimulus payment this year?
