I think Duhan, Nate, Chandler and Q are all decent defenders... Chandler i'd even say is a good defender.. So lets talk about the players in our rotation who are NOT good defenders and lets see if we can figure out who hurts more and who really is expendable.

#1 Zach Randolph - He is known to be a poor defender. At times he gives up on plays and is a little slow on his feet. But there are also times when he digs down and gives some effort. He never wows you with his defense but it has gotten better this year from last year. I think with a strong defender next to him, his weakness's can be minimized.

#2 Jamal - With Jamal its all mental. I have seen him play some hurrassing defense and just totally smother players forcing turnovers looking like a man posessed at times.. but problem is its very very very rare. When Jamal's shot is not falling, he plays no D. I think he gives up on a play once he gets beat instead of rotating or helping way too often and does not presure his man enough. He just needs to put more energy in. At this point in his career I dont know if it will change, but at least we know he is capable... And with 2 strong defenders at the Point(Duhan) and SF(Q, Chandler) he can be put on the least effective offensive player.

#3 David Lee - Just horrible. I mean really, really... Really. One of the worst interior defenders I have seen next to Curry (im leaving him off this list because he is not playing). But Lee is playing, and he just stinks. His biggest problem is his inability to utilize his fouls effectively. If you can't block a shot and you get beat inside, foul the mother ****er HARD.. How many times have you seen david Lee literally just put his arms up.. allow the defender to bump into him, then just stand there while the opposing player gets the And1. David Lee thinks playing defense is satanding under the basket with your arms up.. He gets destroyed night in and night out, its getting to the point where if I see an opposing player taking him on I'm surprised when they DONT score. I dont know if Lee's ability is easily masked, he is playing at a spot in our rotation where defense is essential.. He is a hustle player... he doesent do much offensively.. So how can you be bad defensively? He needs to stop worrying about his jump shot and focus on his defense so he can at least be effective in his natural role which is a hustle rebound defender. Problem is if you cant play defense playing that role you really cause problems. We gave up so many easy points vs. Boston in the paint and i'd go as far as saying more than half of them were david's fault. King1 talk to this boy.. I think now that Curry is gone, he is by far our worst defender and therefor has really made himself expendable... I'm starting to get happy we didnt give him an extention.. his stock is dropping big time

If we trade Lee, all we need to do is hope to draft or find ourselves a stud defending big man, and our frontcourt is set for the future. If we trade Randolph, we're basically looking at 2010 for Chris Bosh, but it would still be a good idea to get another big. Maybe someone like Thabeet.

Either way, b/c both of them play bad defense, one of Lee or Randolph HAS to go, and Lee is the easier player to trade, unless Zach continues to have a monster offensive year and we play .500 bball.

Crawford is so f'ing inconsistent that I don't think anybody knows what to do with him. Personally, I've always preferred a big 2 guard who's consistent and can play consistent defense.
