Remember you talking about this kid. He's having a good first half in a tight game so far. Chase just drove the lane and threw a dunk down on some dude for FLA Atl that was nasty and had the crowd going nuts. Somewhere I heard Marv saying, "Budinger serving up a facial!!!!!!!!"

15-point 1st half for Budinger. Obviously for the Knicks they're gonna need the best player(s) they can get there hands on in the draft but I gotta tell ya, this kid's got some good overall value for a 2/3 for where he's projected to go in the draft (probably somewhere in the middle of the 1st round). With Chandler and Gallinari in place for the future and our biggest needs in different areas (a future lead guard and a center or big forward with at least some legit defensive ability), I don't necessarily see the fit with us but there's no denying he's got a lot going for him: good size for a wing at a legit 6'7", moves well without the ball, passes it well for a forward, is very athletic, can really shoot it from deep and, at least tonight, he's going to the rim with authority and playing some good defense (better than what I remember). Impressive.

I feel ya on the 'Lee with a jumper'. Good call. Budinger's more of a natural scorer and possesses more God-given talent, but yeah, they have similar intangibles.

his defense is real suspect tho, which is the one area that concerns me... very similar to D Lee there as well... he probably won't find much of a role here w/Jamal, Chandler & Gallo likely to get most of the shots on the perimeter in the coming years, i agree... still, there are other talented guys like him that are projected to go in the mid-late 1st round this year, which is why i think it's imperative for us to make a trade to attain that extra pick somehow before the trading deadline... the guy i really wanna get w/an extra pick if we can get one is Patrick Patterson from Kentucky... dude's a physical specimen w/freakish athleticism & he is a good rebounder & shotblocker... very reminiscent of a young Ben Wallace... Thabeet would be nice but i dunno if we'll have a high enough pick to get him, especially if this team keeps playing the way they are right now.

Honestly can't remember Patterson or his game but I'll be on the lookout. Sounds good though...

Just looked him up. Decent numbers last year as a freshman: 16.4 ppg, 7.7 rebs, 1.2 blocks in over 35 mins. Only thing, he's listed at 6'8"/235 lb. You think that's a little small for the PF spot? You've seen this kid more than me - is he a bit of a tweener? Sounds like a Wilson Chandler a little bit, maybe not as good. Maybe closer to a Stephane Lasme with the shot-blocking? Looking forward to seeing him play...

he's a solidly built banger down low & he's got a pretty sick 7' wingspan... he's nothing like Wilson Chandler, who's much more fluid on offense & has a perimeter game... this guy operates in shallow water just like D Lee & he's got some of that nastiness that i think this team is currently lacking... honestly i've only seen him in 2 games & on YouTube clips, but from what i've seen he looks like a guy who could fill D Lee's role quite well should we decide to trade him at the deadline this year or he's allowed to walk via free agency... plus he would bring some shotblocking along w/him like i mentioned, which we really do desperately need right now... i really do see a lot of Ben Wallace in him & from what i can tell i think he could easily put on more muscle as he gets older w/o losing much of his athleticism, so i would say he's a legit PF & not a tweener personally.

check out some of his highlights just to get a feel of what his game is all about:

here's some highlights of him & OJ Mayo during their days at Huntington HS:

I view Chase Budinger as a true SF in the pro game and a perfect fit in D'Antoni's system.

Budinger is a elite athlete who runs the floor extremely well, is a legit 6'8" and has possibly the purest outside shot (for a non-guard) in the NCAA.

Budinger would be a very nice SF option for us.

He would be great at spreading the floor but also has the ability to finish strong and quick to the basket if teams close out on him to quickly. Also an unselfish team player.

With that description, wouldn't he be a nice option at SG too?

I agree with everything except the elite athlete part. He has tons of athletic ability, but the knock on him is that he winds easily... can't call someone an elite athlete with that caveat

Id throw up if we picked him. Another SF one that has 0 defensive abilities--soft by NBA standards.

I agree. He may have a great offensive game (at the college level anyway) but we need some two way players now.
Now, if we picked him up later in the first round and not as a lottery pick I'd be stoked cause he does look great offensively.

Boy what an over rated player he has been--he hasnt shot well from 3 like he was billed and he cant move laterally. Just what we need.

Chase Budinger would essentially fill the role that Grant Hill did last year in Phoenix. Note that I'm not comparing Budinger to Grant Hill's career. I'm comparing last year's version of Grant Hill to Chase Budinger. Let's say the Knicks get the 16th pick this year. I would hardly be upset with the team drafting Budinger to facilitate the offense off the bench so Nate can do his thing and not worry about running the offense.

Like it or not, Budinger does make sense with a mid round pick on this team with this coach.

Let's let some time go by--there is a very nice talent pool.

Well, I'll agree with that. Obviously size, a lead guard, and a sharp shooter are more pressing needs. But I will say if the Knicks just eek into the playoffs and Budinger is available, they could actually use his services (assuming they keep this team together).

i agree... we should be targetting players like Marcus the Truth... now there's a defensive stopper w/a consistent perimeter J.
