Game started at 7:00 pm on SNY. A chance to see Hasheem Thabeet for the first time this season. I'm curious to see him - if he's made the kind of all-around strides like they're saying, you gotta look at this kid hard if you're the Knicks, and it will probably mean trading up next summer to get him. The commentators just mentioned that Jim Calhoun said Thabeet's made the most progress out of any player he's ever coached before - quite a statement. Right off the bat in this game, the agility, foot speed and grace he possesses for a guy 7'3" is really off the charts. Much, much quicker and more agile than Dikembe Mutombo. Really looking for a big season outta this kid...

Jeff Adrien worth keeping an eye this season too. This guy's gonna be a nice find for somebody out there - good overall size (6'7", 240+), very athletic and a real plus defender. Does all the dirty work for you. Reminds me a little of Pat Ewing Jr./Luc Mbah a Moute, or a heavier/stronger Balkman with a better all-around game minus the handle. NBAdraft.net compares him to Jason Maxiell - I think that accurate.

No impact for Thabeet in this game so far - 3 mins. to go in the first half & he's on the bench in foul trouble. Only has one FG so far that came on a tap in. See what happens in the 2nd half...

UConn eventually wins the game going away in the second half but suprisingly Thabeet had very little impact on the outcome (Adrien winds up putting up a very repectable line of 12 pts./15 rebs. and a block after a real slow start). Chaulk it up to some early season rust I guess, still I was really looking for Thabeet to dominate this team in a big way and it just didn't happen tonight... A player that really caught my eye tonight was Gavin Edwards for UConn. Didn't have a big game stats-wise but he was extremely active. 6'9"/230 lb. forward was noticibly quick off his feet to block a shot and showed a pretty long reach. Very lively body. Active, aggressive and quite strong. Very quick sequence where he ripped a rebound right out of a Hartford player's hands clean and fed Adrien for a dunk that was very impressive. I liked what I saw from this kid tonight...
