We have almost 30M coming off the books next season with the Marbury and Rose expiring contracts. We can still offer Robinson and Lee contracts and/or explore the free agent market. Considering the free agents class of 2009 in:

Drew Gooden
Allen Iverson
Rasheed Wallace
Baron Davis (if he does not exercise the opt out in 2008)
Elton Brand
Lamar Odom
Kobe Bryant (option)
Jason Kidd
Stephon Marbury
Jamal Crawford (player option for 09/10 and 10/11 - 50/50)
Eddy Curry (player option for 09/10, 10/11 - 50/50)
Hedo Turkoglu (player option for 09/10, unlikely)
Andre Miller
Steve Nash (player option, unlikely)
Grant Hill
Steve Francis
Ron Artest (can opt out in '08)
Mike Bibby
Carlos Boozer (player option for 09/10 unlikely)
Mehmet Okur (player option for 09/10 unlikely)

Who do you like for our team?

Even with Marbury and Rose coming off the books, the Knicks are still over the cap. Only way is to offer the MLE.

Also, I wouldn't rule out Steve Nash opting out of his contract. He doesn't like the slow pace of Porter and has already been vocal about wanting to run more. He hasn't looked that great in Porter's system. Nash loves NY and lives there in the summer. He loves D'Antoni and his system.

I wouldn't mind Nash here either, but he wouldn't be a longterm solution. Guy's gettin' old.

I wouldn't mind having Lamar Odom here though. Yeah, he's not a good defender and he disappears when it counts the most, but he's a triple-double threat when he's on his game.

Guy is already old but it wouldn't shock me. Three games into the season and Nash was kinda of complaining about the lack of running. sheesh...

Are we under the cap next year? By how much? Here is a cap space estimate for the Summer of 2008

Booze will very likely opt out. Even Deron has publicly hinted at it. His wife wants to go to Miami. She's the reason he's not LeBron's wing man right now. The family lives in Miami during the offseason and Riley is desperate to do anything to keep Wade from looking at Derrick Rose too hard.

Crawford is highly unlikely and damn near impossible. He loves NY, loves being in a big market and plays the easiest to fill position in the league. The free agent market won't bear what he thinks he's worth (at least not when teams are gearing up for Summer '10), the Knicks have padlocked the checkbook so he's not going to get a raise by opting out and he's definitely not leaving money on the table.

i wonder if Steve Nash would come to NY for a full MLE for 6yrs? that's what, $33 million? he makes his home in NY in the off season and obviously gets along okay with D'Antoni. and i'm guessing he'd get some advertising gigs.

The sad thing is that we are so over the cap that even with Marbury and Malik's contracts we are still over the cap. We need to trade Eddy for an expiring or a contract with only 1 more year (Al Harrington?) and also trade ZBo for an expiring and a lottery pick. Then we will be under the cap in 2010.

Andre Miller WOULD be nice, but I bet he's staying with Philly. If he doesn't, Brand is going elsewhere.

Jamal Crawford os a lock to opt out--think about. This is his last big contract--Jamal knows it--his agent knows it and if he plays 20 points 4-5 a 3 reb he is going to get 6 yrs 54 mm at a minimum but more like 60mm. Who cares about the 20--the 20 is there in case of injury this year.

Oh yeah how is your new Dwayne Wade doing? Good player not even close to wade. I knew Mcgee would be the steal of the draft

moving Curry should be an imperative right now. it seems like it might actually be possible. San Antonio seems like it could be a real option.

a trade i'd suggest once Ginobili and Curry are healthy might be something like Curry for Kurt Thomas and Roger Mason. as part of the deal we waive Malik Rose and he can re-sign with San Antonio to give them a replacement for Kurt. We could keep Kurt, waive Roger Mason and re-sign Ewing Jr. It's kinda whacky with the waivings and re-signings, but it gives San Antonio a scoring option down low that rests Duncan a little and with Oberto and Duncan next to Curry, Curry's defensive lameness is hidden. D'Antoni liked Kurt in PHX and he can hit a jumper so he works in this offense. Kurt expires by 2010.

i think an opportunity will present itself to move Zach. if we move Curry and Zach, that's about $28 million off the 2010 cap number, even with extensions to Nate and Lee and the rookies, we should have room for one max deal. If we ditch Lee for a young player and or draft pick, it gets even easier.

Curry and Zach are the two important pieces to move by 2010.

it's a little early to say that with Bayless not playing much, Randolph not playing much, Mayo still learning, etc. McGee is playing because of an injury. he looks good in his opportunity but the Wizards have looked horrible on the whole.

Randolph is starting to get minutes. While he is shooting the ball consistently he has average nearly 8 rebounds and 2 blocks. Now that's nice.
