Every year he has shown steady improvement. Even though the "retirement" of his Summer League jersey was tacky, there is something to be said for his perserverance and hard work to make himself a better player. It requires a selfless point of view to play Summer League after your third pro season.

Under D'Antoni, as presike has astutely pointed out, Nate's focus adjustment has allowed him to become a league leader in steals.

Some may think of Nate as a good dancer and the perpetual prankster but shooting 47 percent from the field, including 39 per cent from three point range is no joke. His assists are up and he will attack the boards (avg almost 4) for a rebound or (gasp) a putback every now and then. Best of all, he plays with heart and plenty of soul.

You go Nate. You make me happy.

"not the game, not the game... we talkin' bout practice..."

People who harp on "effort" always point to David Lee. I would offer that there has NEVER been a night when Nate has not brought every ounce of his energy to the court. He puts the blue in blue collar and the "E" in effort because that is all he has ever known.

Did I mention his team leading .472 fg average has Nate locked in as the third leading scorer with 15 points a game?

Larry Brown trivialized Nate's unique essence and labelled him a sideshow. D'Antoni embraces the skill-set and the passion - and now has someone who will run through a brick wall for him.

Don't be surprised if it happens.

when Nate makes mistakes MDA doesn't get on him for it because he's at least trying his hardest when it happens... u noticed how hard he came down on Wilson Chandler when he failed to close out on his man on the perimeter & just stood there while he knocked down an open J... that type of non-effort mistake is what MDA's gonna get on his guys for.

Nate has grown on me quite a bit.

To be fair, Brown labeled Nate a 'sideshow' because that's what he was acting like.
I'll never trust this' team again.

4949 - don't get it twisted. Brown labelled Nate a sideshow because his goal was to make him subserviant to an arcane coaching tactic via a negative stereotype. "I'm in charge and you aren't"

Nate was acting like any juiced-up young man with energy to spare. Here was a 5'8 shrimp who people always insisted was too short, suddenly in the freakin' NBA. So what if he danced during warmups? Basketball is a game and a game is supposed to be fun. If you were 5'8 and made it all the way up the ladder to the NBA, guess what?

you would celebrate and dance too.

Hey, I didn't like Nate either and I know why I didn't like him. It's my opinion of him then and my opinion now! Leave it at that. I know what I meant when I said what I said.

I always liked Nate, but he has driven me crazy for a while with some of the things he's done on the court(flexing after a dunk in a 30 point loss, attempting to throw balls off the backboard) but you could never fault his effort. He is the type of player we need on this roster. He plays his role very well.

Nate is overtaking Lee for my fav player on the Knicks.

There are certain players as a Knick fan you want to see celebrating a championship on the MSG floor.

Ewing, Oakley, Starks, Mason, Spree, Camby....

Nate is in that category.. He is great to root for... I dont care how long it takes, I want to see little nate poppin champaigne for New York at MSG representing the enthusiasm and heart of New York's fans

Usually, but not last night against the Spurs. He was terrible last night. He even has an average game and we win....

he was terrible but not from lack of effort.. Wilson Chandler was more concerning to me last night than Nate

Is that the game against the Lakers you're talking about? Because I remember after he did that, the bench (I think Kobe was sitting there also) looked at each other and just started cracking up. That said, you're right on that he's really good at the role he's in now.

Yeah, that was the game. I was so annoyed. I would have killed him if I was coach. But I think he's growing out of that. He still worries about the refs to much, but progress is being shown.

The thing to look for with Nate, even after a sub-par shooting game, is how he rebounds and contributes the night after.

Does he learn from his mistakes or does he come back more determined to make a positive impact?

You can't keep an effort player down for too long.
