I say just stay even keel. We will stink many nights, and on some nights they will tantalize us with their play. What we need to be more concerned with is how our young guys improve over time. And if they do, the team will as well. Maybe even enough that we can pretend we are going to make a run from the 8th seed. But chances are we will suffer many of the issues we suffered from last year. I't s a given. Just relax and prepare for a looooooong rebuild
It's funny Bip how just about every Knick fan screamed for years that they wanted a rebuild and now that we're pretty much seeing that happen, guys are angry that the team isn't showing more promise after 3 games. Don't they realize that this process can take YEARS??? Right now we simply must let these guys take their lumps. They've got to learn in the crucible of regular season play. Hopefully after 82 games they'll have grown and improved and those who haven't will be gone. We're not locked into any of them long term at this point.
Still when it comes to this process we need to be patient.
It would be easier for some of us if we were in a regular rebuilding mode. That would be having some young players to build around (jury still out on Chandler and Gallinari), if we had cap space (lets not get into that) and had a well managed organization. So far we are still the laughingstock of the NBA, and this Marbury fiasco only gave it more life. It's been 7 straight losing seasons and we have no young star with potential to represent those years with high draft picks because of the horrible trades we've made.
And now that we have a new management, we still make some moves that make no sense, like the Balkman trade, waiving Jr. and the Marbury fiasco that has practically made it impossible to at least trade him.
The only good thing that has happened lately is signing D'Antoni, and I'm still not sure I like this no-defense system that makes anyone shoot three's like the world is gonna end, even if they end up missing 80% of them.
Meanwhile, Detroit makes a heck of a deal that puts them in position for "2010", something we are supposedly trying to do. Walsh and D'Antoni preach patience, but they just arrived. We've suffered this for so many years now that its understandable to lose faith...
