Jackson, Popovich, Parcells, LB(our God), D'Antoni, Bip etc. Not all of them, but many of them are sarcastic as heck about their players to the media and none of them care when a player whines about it. Not saying it's right or wrong. Just something I've observed.

one thing i've noticed (sans Phil.. but even him at times) is they get INTO IT... Did you guys see how FURIOUS Mike got when we started to blow it??? I loved it because, I felt like screming at the players and he actually did it for me... where as Isiah would just stand there with THIS look on his face:

hell yeah, also how great was it to have the inside access and haer him speak to the team in the hudle???????? that was a beatiful addition to the MSG coverage... really loved it... "DONT LET UP!!! DONT LET THESE GUYS OFF THE HOOK!!" what more could you want the coach to say? lol... But what did the players do? exactly that.. shows why u cant always blame the coach!

Van Gundy was totally involved in his games too as was Riley. I like when coaches do that, tho it's not totally necessary. I think MDA just plain gets it. He knows what it takes to win and he doesn't care about how he may come across while he's doing what he does. Unlike LB, he's got a GM that will let him do his thing and fully supports him, so he knows he can go out and get the job done.

the Key is his relationship with Walsh as opposed to LB's relationship with Isiah. I actually believe LB would have worked here if Isiah didnt keep underminding him.

I loved Van Gundy's passion, he was my fav Knicks coach

Coaches being into it is very, very, VERY important. Fans want to see that the coach, players, organization care. Sometimes it's abit over-the-top, but I think it sets a tone and example to the players. "If the coach is screaming like an *******, I should be playing like an *******."

D'Antoni's a fiery style coach & i love that... that was always my biggest problem w/Lenny Wilkens, he just was too laid back for these guys & this city & i never felt like he had the cache to do what D'Antoni did the other night... Isiah & Marbs ran his team... he only taught the plays & ran practices.

i think the only laid back coach or manager i've ever loved in NY was Joe Torre... every other one, from Billy Martin to Lou Piniella to Bill Parcells to Tom Coughlin to Pat Riley to Jeff Van Gundy... all these guys were passionate & wore their emotions on their sleeve... that's how i am... i obviously belong in the same breath as the rest of those guys... we're all gamers.

did Tom Coughlin tell Plax he wasn't starting last week before the game or did he just tell him before the opening kickoff that he should sit his butt on the bench for breaking the team rules? what kind of sit down explanation is needed here? Marbs is a veteran, he knows the deal & he knows he got no more future left in NY... to his credit he didn't make a stink of it in his postgame comments but bottomline is D'Antoni's got every right to play the guys he wants & not play the guys he doesn't want... anyway sending Marbury home is not his decision, it's Walsh & Dolan's... they decided to keep him on the roster, but that doesn't mean D'Antoni has to play him.

i got tons of respect for what he did... he knew he'd get flack over it from the media & some fans but he did what he felt he had to do going forward to fit his vision for how he wants them to play... Marbs needs to be bought out ASAP & sent out of NY so we don't have to deal w/his distraction any longer... maybe this was a wake up call to Walsh & Dolan to expedite the process?

Yes Coughlin told Plax prior taht he wasn't starting. the story hit the rotowire at least 2 hours prior to tipoff giving all the Toomer and Steve Smith fantasy owners a chance to insert him in the lineup and downgrade Plax.

MDA had the authority to tell Curry go ice his unused knee for the 2nd half but he doesn't have the authority to keep Marbury away from the team...riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggggghhhhhhtttttt!

MDA doesn't decide who's on the roster... he decides who to use in a rotation.

Donnie Walsh has gone on record as saying he'll get/keep the guys Mike wants.

Plax broke team rules by acting like an ass. Cause and effect, it wasn't out of the blue.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

u seriously think if MDA had his wish that Marbs would still be here? this is Dolan's choice to have Marbury here, not MDA's, not Walsh's... they couldn't get him to sign off on a full buyout so right now this is what u have... a head coach that doesn't want this guy playing on his team & an owner who doesn't wanna pay an employee to go work for someone else... Steph fans are just gonna have to deal w/it & so will he.

No I do not and MDA may very well "hate" the role he played in humiliating Steph. I'm glad you are acknowledging it was a lot more to it than Mike laying down the law.

Its a shakedown. This is Dolan's way of squeezing Steph for 5 to 10 mil and Dolan thinks he can do it being that its a contract year for Steph.

it may very well be a shakedown from that standpoint, but i don't buy into the notion that MDA did this w/the intention of embarassing Marbury, which is what i've been hearing around here.

Well if D'Antoni benched Marbury under orders, especially after playing him in the preseason, well there goes all the autonomy he is reputed too have. I just don't see a good side to the way they decided to go about this.
