According to an anonymous source, a CAT scan taken last week on McDyess's knee is that it is 90% healed... and that he might be ready in time to start the season.
That's certainly good news, but he's not out of the water. We know the bone is healing-- how is the rest of his conditioning / flexibility / etc? It's possible that while the bone is healing, there could be some scar tissue built up which might inhibit his movement and cause general "discomfort".
I wonder if the Knicks will take an Ilgauskas-like time table to get him into game shape--- ie keep him under 24mpg and bring him along slowly.
To be honest, I think the Knicks, w/ a vintage McDyess come playoff time, would be hard to handle by any of the eastern (or western) teams. We'll have a nice, versatile starting line (KT, McDyess, KVH) with a very big bench (Doleac, Lampe, Sweetney, 'Spoon, Harrington, Knight)... in the event that our rookies suck, we still have 36 fouls to give. :)
IMHO, the only notable eastern competition is NJ--- most of the teams either made wholescale changes or are in transition. We have a very legit shot at a playoff spot.
Our lack of depth at swingman is no good, and while it was suggested that DerMarr Johnson was signed by the Grizzlies, so far his only ties w/ them have been a summer-league deal. So far as I know, he's still available, and would be a nice-upside alternative to a Postell.
I think the only realistic tweak we need to make is trading one of our veteran bigmen for a similarly overpaid veteran swingman with some ball handling skills on the wing.
