According to an anonymous source, a CAT scan taken last week on McDyess's knee is that it is 90% healed... and that he might be ready in time to start the season.

That's certainly good news, but he's not out of the water. We know the bone is healing-- how is the rest of his conditioning / flexibility / etc? It's possible that while the bone is healing, there could be some scar tissue built up which might inhibit his movement and cause general "discomfort".

I wonder if the Knicks will take an Ilgauskas-like time table to get him into game shape--- ie keep him under 24mpg and bring him along slowly.

To be honest, I think the Knicks, w/ a vintage McDyess come playoff time, would be hard to handle by any of the eastern (or western) teams. We'll have a nice, versatile starting line (KT, McDyess, KVH) with a very big bench (Doleac, Lampe, Sweetney, 'Spoon, Harrington, Knight)... in the event that our rookies suck, we still have 36 fouls to give. :)

IMHO, the only notable eastern competition is NJ--- most of the teams either made wholescale changes or are in transition. We have a very legit shot at a playoff spot.

Our lack of depth at swingman is no good, and while it was suggested that DerMarr Johnson was signed by the Grizzlies, so far his only ties w/ them have been a summer-league deal. So far as I know, he's still available, and would be a nice-upside alternative to a Postell.

I think the only realistic tweak we need to make is trading one of our veteran bigmen for a similarly overpaid veteran swingman with some ball handling skills on the wing.

Just like they said he could possibly play at the end of last year. Only to find out he needed more surgery. I will believe a Dice story when it comes true, until then it is meaningless.

I hear that, Vmart... The same thing did happen last year.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Yeah, I'd prefer to treat the Dice issue as that 20-dollar bill you left in your pocket accidentally, then totally forgot it was there until you rummaged for a quarter...

if it's not there, you never expected it to be, but if it is...well, bonus.

Groundhog day.

Just like last year, so it will keep happening?

HIs knee is 90% healed, he'll play when it is 100%. Lets say thanksgiving he gets rostered. Rusty he'll be.

I never planned on him coming back at all. His greatest asset was his extreme athleticisism. A fundamental player like h20 can play effectively with a bum knee. Allan's type game can carry him to his contracts end. spree was an athletic type whom a step lost can hurt his effeciveness.

Those pics of dice flying are a site to see!

What if he comes back effective? How much do we sign him after? Let him walk? I don't know!

I'm quietly optimistic.

I think even w/o McDyess we'll be able to put on a stronger push for a playoff spot than last season. In perspective, a healthy McDyess would probably be the #1 player on our team, which either says something about his talent or the Knicks' lack of it. :)

Hey, IMO all things McDyess falls under Murphy's law until I see otherwise. I'll be damned if I get all hyped over McDyess coming back and he falls down again. It was bad enough when that happened I happened to be in the Garden and saw it with my own eyes.

Someone HAS to go. First off, I'll believe DICE is back when I see it over 30+ games.

Getting back to point 1
Realistcally
PF-Mcdyess, Thomas,Spoon, Harrington, Sweetney, Lampe[who will surely be pushed at the C position] Van Horn[yeah he came here as a 3 but really is a 4]

What's the point of transitioning the team to younger players if they get 0 game experience?

Are we going to SIGn Mcdyess and Thomas to BIG $$$$ while they age into their 30's with all of the young blood we just drafted given both of their health histories?

The answer NO NO NO NO NO/

EVEN on a losing team[and whether we are a winner or loser in the east is IMPOSSIBLE to know especialy when we could have some impact type rookies with size in a very small east] it is NOT healthy to have so many guys play the same position.

There has to be contingency plans to trade perhaps EVEN all 3 guys Thomas Harrington and Mcdyess via sign and trade next year---quite frankly Mcdyess is ALWAYS going to be like Alonzo or Grant Hill.I dont thinkyou can ever realy count onthe durability issue. the best case scenario is Thomas plays well enough so we can trade him for a first round pick--and Mcdyess comes in and raises his trade value--maybe we keep him at 5MM per for a couple of seasons or entertain sign and trade.

For this team to be successful means we have to move out many of the vetran players who are here because when the younger guys peak, these guys will likely be complimentary players, and you dont want a payroll where the complimentary players make 8MM+

Personally Im taking a wait and see but there are going to have tomake decisions.Maybe Mcdyess will surprise?
Have towait and see.

also, no reason to have travis knight on the roster. his value to this tem is now negligent. we are very thin at 2 3. I say dump Knight and sign Dion Glover to a 2 year 2mm$ with an option for a 3rd year.

Again like most I will believe it when I see dice on the floor, until then I will continue to carry on like Dice was not comming back. If he does then great, that will be a bonus, what I do want to see is chaney and the knicks make a commitment to playing younger players and developing them, lampe, williams and sweetney. To be realistic developing these guys will have a much greater long term benefit than trying to get an 8th seed and getting masacred in the first round. If we are lucky an dice comes back healthy and the rooks can contribute then all the better.. Until then I have to see dice on the floor first!!

i agree with you all on MCDYESS
What does DICK CHANEY & DON CHANEY have in common ?? They both accidentally fell into a job they don't deserve & really suck at doing it !!!! Both need to be fired !!!

The (Othella)injury helps ease the logjam coach Don Chaney has to contend with at that position, and he has options until Antonio McDyess returns to reclaim it, which team insiders figure to be sometime in December.

Those options include moving Keith Van Horn -- originally slated to start at small forward --to the four-spot and inserting Shandon Anderson into the starting lineup.

Chaney may instead decide to keep Van Horn at the three-spot, and force-feed rookie Mike Sweetney minutes when the preseason schedule begins on Oct. 7.

Chaney has maintained that Clarence Weatherspoon, his most effective player at that position last season, is best suited to come off the bench.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.
