We may win this year-we may lose who the hll knows in the east???????

but I would RATHER LOSE just this one more year and acquire a second 1st round pick

Im looking for a big skill player 6-10++ hoping for Okafor but there are many interesting looking players, especialy that new freshmen C from Utah

I want that second first rounder because I want Romain Sato and he isnt going to slip to the 2nd round.

If we can get one of
Okafor
Perovic
Bogut
seng-jin
pavel[if he improves dramticaly]
harrison[he would be a pick if we were a winning team this year a little later in the 1st round
Paul Davis from Mich St who played VERy well in the FIBA juniors

and sato in the first round

and get lucky with a 3 in the second round even if its a euro or high school project.

Lets say for example we end up with
Kosta Perovic 7-3 250
Romain Sato 6-5 210
TJ Cummings 6-8 215
+ Milos

that would leave us with

young players
Vranes 7-6 285 by next year?
Lampe 7-1 265
Perovic 7-3 260
Sweetney 6-8 260
Cummings 6-8 215
Sato 6-5 215
Williams 6-3 200
Milos 6-3 180
Vets assuming both thomas and Harrington are gone
Van horn 6-10 255
Houston 6-6 200
Andersen 6-6 200
doleac 6-11 265 [i would like to retain him]
Eisley 6-2 180
Weatherspoon 6-7 270
and if Mcdyess comes back and plays well 2nd half the year without injury, I would retain him for the same $$ that KT makes 3 years 15mm because thats what Idexpect his new output would be in line with what KT does

We are a team that is in transition. My hope this next team is built around a nice combination of high skilled BIg players sprinkled in with some good athletes and defenders/shooters and two PGs who can shoot and penetarte.

I see this evolving but there can be NO miss next year come draft time.

I'm curious about the upcoming draft too, is anyone here from atlanta? Apparently the Atlanta Celtics are THE team in HS this season, with Dwight Howard, Joshua Smith and Randolph Morris all NBA bound within a year or 2..

Sorry to informed you Briggs but the Knicks main priority is to make it back to the playoffs. Knicks Mgmt isn't looking that far ahead regarding next yrs draft. As of now, Laydown's job is on the line and he's currently trying to assemble a team competitive enough for a playoff run.

Im sure every team's goal[unlike last year] is to make the playoffs, which will make it tougher on every team.

I think this year is a transition year. There are some high quality C in this draft. The ONLY way the Knicks acquire a good C is through the draft. No other way. I think they realize we need an anchor player and a young 2 guard for long term benefit. I see us much different from years past, holding draft picks like they are gold rather than tradeable assets. In fact, I can see us moving someone like Thomas at the trade deadline for another pick if we are dead in the water.

You have to realize this is a cyclical businessand you can not will yourself into an 8 seed. It's better to build a long term contender from every facet. They have paid the price for trying to cheat the system. If they realized they needed a step back in 2000, I think things would be different. You have to sell a winner or hope---hope as in young stud players. the only way to acquire them is through the draft.

I think they know this is in a transition phase. Until proven otherwise I wil stick with the assumption.

Briggs, regarding the playoffs, you never know, the knicks just might fall much higher than an 8th seed. As for obtaining a center in the draft for next yr, i don't know if you were fully aware but the organization felt like they accomplished that feat this yr. As a matter of fact, 2 players. In the long term, the knicks will be trying to utilized Lampe @ the 5 position. He is capable of playing all 3 frontcourt positions. At the age of 18, he stands 7'0, 240pds and still growing. Lampe won't be your typical physical, bang inside center but if you look @ the current centers in the N.B.A, there are only a few. The #5 position is changing drastically so sometime in the future, it will fit into Lampe's game. As for the other player, Slavo Vranes currently considered a project. Good shot-blocker with decent mobility. Knicks will be patient with both players. As for the knicks rebuilding, they've already started. With the 3 draft picks this yr, acquistion of Van Horn and drafting Frank Williams last yr,the Knicks look younger. The Knicks purposely won't make the playoffs, that's not their style. There are many fans out there spending top dollars for tickets, merchandises and etc. When the draft arrives in 2004 and wherever the knicks are listed, I'm sure knicks mgmt will pick the best player available for their needs. Ex. Knicks make playoffs and get the 21st pick, don't be surprise if the pick ends up being a gem.

Briggs, no need to worry, keep on checking up on those college players. We may be a shoe-in to hit the Lottery this year, no matter what LayDown says or who believes that crap.

I just don't want any more foreign players, though. We have Lampe, Vranes, and Milos- that's enough. We don't need the drama of iffy players too scared to step on the court in NY (read: Milos).

Let's draft a solid player with at least 2 years of ocllege experience.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!
Next years draft is what is most important to this franchise.
