Quote from DLee as per Marc Berman
Reacting to the Knicks deciding against giving him a contract extension, David Lee said, "I'm planning to have a big year if I'm signed for the next 50 years or if I was told I'd be here two months."

This is the kind of player you keep and build your franchise around or at least an integral part of your franchise.

Must be the political season with that quote. The Knicks now are at the mercy of other teams. They had a trading chip they no longer have. No team will trade for him since he isnt signed. You cant sign and trade him because he is a restricted free agent. You should have either signed him or traded him last year.

King, I dont get why you think the Knicks are the mercy of other teams. Sure the Knicks can use David as a chip in a trade, but that doesn't mean they won't resign him this summer if they don't trade him. I don't think Walsh cares if Lee's overall price goes up 8-10 million if he has a good year, I think Walsh would almost rather that because if he has that kind of year, the Knicks are in a great position.

Lets say Lee get 2 million a year more since they waited that is 10 million dollars and all they preach is fiscally responsibility which that isnt. You have to draft a big now in case someone throws him a lot of cash.

if the knicks are serious about 2010, they can't sign david. in truth, they can't sign anybody unless they make two unbelievable trades.

If Lee is worth that cash at the end of the season then i'll be happy to give it to him. His agent probably wanted that amount anyway and now he just has to go out and earn it or avoid a big time injury.

Why can't the Knicks trade Lee? I thought players get signed and traded all the time, when restricted free agents.

any team that trades for Lee and extend him or sign and trade him. Why do you think otherwise?

lee can be s&t after this season. but that's only really the case when a player wants to go to another team and his old team wants something in return.

i.e. crawford to the knicks.

he finished 4 years with the bulls and was a restricted free agent. only way the knicks could lure him here was to offer him $56 mil, otherwise they would offer the MLE and hope chicago doesn't match. the bulls didn't want him but they used the knicks to also dump jyd's contract as well. so the bulls accomodated the knicks b/c they got to dump jyd.

now, if lee is presented with a big offer (roughly 9 mil a year), knicks will have to either match, let him walk for nothing, or try to engineer a sign and trade. if the other team has $9 mil in cap space to make it happen, knicks are sh it outta luck. but if the other team is over the cap, then the knicks could try to work out a sign and trade. david's objective is to get an offer from a team under the cap so that leaves the knicks with no leverage.

actually thats the best in some cases. Because the sign and trade could just be for draft picks. For example KMart. Nets threatened to match, but Denver had cap space so they worked out KMart for 3 future picks in a S&T.

We could then use those picks to lure in FAs for our 2010 team:
pg Duhon
sg Wade
sf Lebron
pf Bosh
c Zach

I hate using the money philosophy with guys you want to keep. I mean if Donnie really wants to keep him and pay him. Does he go out and hope Lee doesn't have a great year just so he can underpay him. It's part of the game but I just hate it myself.

TrueBlue mentioned on Realgm, the real possibility that Lebron doesn't want to leave and the Cavs will be looking to pick up Bosh in 2010 to get to play with Lebron. That makes sense to me.

David can rejoin Larry Brown and be a Bobcat.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

everyone's saying the right things & acting the right way when the season begins... once this team starts to lose games we'll see which one of these guys are worth keeping & who we should dump... character reveals itself in times of hardship... i have no doubt that D Lee is 1 of the guys who we'll wanna hold onto tho.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.
