Curry doesn't fit in rotation
October 28, 2008

Mike D’Antoni announced that incumbent starting center Eddy Curry is out of the rotation … at least for Wednesday’s season opener against Miami.

Curry seemed both surprised and upset
when reporters informed him of D’Antoni’s decision. Clearly, Curry doesn’t fit into D’Antoni’s system, never has never will. At some point this season he will be traded.

And you can’t claim that Curry, because of his illness at the start of training camp, isn’t ready. Gallinari hasn’t appeared in a game since the Vegas Summer League and missed the three weeks of the preseason due to a lingering back injury.

Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Stephon Marbury, Nate Robinson and Malik Rose will be part of the rotation. Chris Duhon, Jamal Crawford, Quentin Richardson, Zach Randolph and David Lee will start against Miami.

Yah, this will make him more tradeable, racking up DNPCD's mixed in with 5min, 5foul, 2pt, 1reb performances.

Also nice to see that beat writers are informing our players of their status before our coach. Yeah, lots have changed this offseason, NOT.

If the goal is to trade him, this seems awfully stupid

what if the goal is to play the guys who can play?

if Curry doesn't like it, he can opt out at the end of the year.

i find Curry's benching refreshing. maybe now he gets in shape.

Agreed, but, the only way to make him truly appetizing to other teams is to return him to that 19/7 player of two seasons ago. Unfortunately with Zach still in uniform that is entirely impossible.

So, well, we now got JJ3.

JJ1=Jerome James
JJ2=Jared Jeffries
JJ3=Eddy Curry turning into Jerome James and his bench warming ways until he expires in 2011.

Players only opt out if they think they can get a brand new contract with more money and more years on it.

Curry won't therefore he won't opt out.

Curry doesn't care therefore this won't force him to get into shape. He'll happily collect another what 30M dollars over 3 years sitting on the bench in a suit ballooning to over 350 pounds. He's already now fully guaranteed since he made it through his first 3 seasons without any heart issues. He's in the clear contract wise for him.

We're ****ed.

Chandler will be asked to play serious minutes at center. Oh boy. Q Rich? What the hell has that guy done to warrant starting or even being in the rotation? Futhermore, Rose is now part of the rotation too? It's so insane that it might work. Secure the 1st overrall pick and enraged Dolan.

The part about Curry being traded this season, is probably Isola's thinking not Donnie's, so I wouldn't take much stock in what Assola says when it comes to stuff like that or anything else for that matter.

We tried EVERYTHING with Curry. We gave the loser the ball every possession for a whole season. We had like 300 coaches babysitting the guy. Isiah coddling him on the sidelines after every bad game. Dantoni came in here, watched the film, and saw Curry for the bum that he is, the little baby who adds NOTHING to the team. Maybe this will work. Maybe humiliating and burying this slob on the bench will work. If it doesnt, then lets move onto the next player who may be able to contribute.

Curry being deactivated means absolutely nothing. The whole league already knows he's a fat slob and I'm sure most GMs are saluting Walsh/D'Antoni for finally sitting him down and not allowing him to play.

Jerome and Eddy are now sort of like bookends. The Knicks can put one on each side of the bench to hold it down. I'm sure this is what Isiah had in mind all along.... BRILLIANT!

Sitting Curry is a benchmark of a turnaround. Same with Marbury. He had to be shown that his play will determine his status. Not his max contract.

If Craw can turn it around, then he'll get the start.

Fat Eddy for the first time in his life got benched.

It's about time.... I know this hurts his trade value but his fatnesss and lazyness have hurt this team worse and for far longer.

Thank God. I don't know how showing off how pathetically out of shape he is or that he has no idea how to play MDA's system boosts his trade value. Might as well chalk it up to "a bad fit" and get whatever we can for him. That, or hopefully he becomes so miserable he opts out after this year.

it's unfortunate that this didn't happen for Curry in high school or that he didn't go to college and get screamed at. Probably too late for him.

So much for D'Antoni being a softee "players coach" that doesn't hold players accountable.

I'm all for positive re-enforcement, but sometimes a careful, timely, kick in the...

can work.

For Eddy and us, let's hope so.

It could work, as long as it is done carefully, and if Eddy has the desire. It may not be the right environment though, and I could still see him improve a bit elsewhere.
