If there is one more cut to make, no way Roberson should beat out ewing. We have enough small shooting guards and we need some insurance for our injury-prone swingmen.
On top of that ewing can really play defense and finish around the basket.
On top of that Ewing is just the better player.
On top of that he is Patrick Ewing Jr.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

Oohah, the last point is the one I strongly disagree. I haven't seen enough of those guys to judge which is better, but I don't care what their last names are. I don't want any Knick to make the team because of his last name - whether it's Houston, Grunwald or Ewing.

I understand, but we're not talking about him beating out even a Matt Carroll type, we are talking about Roberson who is probably not an NBA player. So the push goes to the guy named Ewing.

I agree, except I thought the choice was between Jr., Roberson & James.
Between the three, James is an obvious choice to be cut. It should be a no-brainer.

Here is why his last name matters to me- all these second generation ball players (god I am getting old when I watched their dads play) Luke Walton, Wilkins- they don't run up the stat sheets like their dad, but they are fundamentally sound, old school players who know how to win and do all the little things.
Ewing gets it.
And face it- if somehow Walsh is able to score a big win in 2010 free agency and we somehow win a championship- the least we owe Pat sr. is to give his son a legit chance to make it.
Signing Roberson in the off season like we did was STUPID.
Don't compound the mistake.
Keep Pat Jr.

Another thing I like about Ewing Jr. that really reminds me of his father is his fire. He really plays with emotion and he cares. He lays it on the line. He's got the pro body, I'd like to see if he can develop his game and take advantage of his physical gifts.

James has got to go. He has no value in a trade, and even his expiring contract would only bring back more salary, which the Knicks have said they don't want. I say let him go.

Pat Jr. IMO is the clear choice! I don't have a problem with Roberson, but as it was said already, we've got guards like him and the area of need is at forward. More importantly I think he has more upside as an NBA player. Jr. has that something you want athletically and that fire you want mentally. He get's after it and if he ever get's comfortable shooting he's a far better overall player than Roberson can ever be.
Jr's size makes him a very flexible guy to have as well. He can guard from 1-4 and that is something this team could use going forward.

Also, when they showed jr. warming up 3 hours before the game when no one else was on the court. He is a keeper. He is not his dad but it has been along time since I dropped everything and paid total attention to a Knick game for ten straight minutes. I used to watch every game from pregame thru post for a span of ten years and I would travel on vacation to watch games during the Ewing, Starks, Oak years. Seeing jr. out there brought back the feeling that I used to have when I felt like the Knicks could out work and out play any team on any night. I hope he makes it. James should be bought out if they cannot get him to retire.

You guys still don't get it. dolan isn't buying anyone out. He said so himself. Jr. is a goner! The only way for a buyout to happen is if Jr. showed some super promise. Why sign Roberson to 800 thouw, and then get rid of him a month and a half later? And then what if they did' keep Jr. and he flops? The brass is out another 800 thousand and Jr. is yet another long line of bums.
I'll never trust this' team again.

I didn't realize James contract was expiring. It is a no brainer for Walsh to waive or buy him out. If he is picked up by another team for the veteran minimum I believe the portion of his contract covered by that team would more than pay for Ewing's contract if he signs for the minimum. The salary cap implications are minimal considering that Walsh has already added to that by signing Duhon to the entire mid level.
